Interesting, now that I run the numbers, the "new" Edge plan is a little better than the Edge plan I signed up for in October. For me, a 64 GB 6 Plus ($850 retail) on a 15 GB/month plan ($25/month Edge credit) would look like this:Positive. Heres a link to the Verizon Edge page: http://www.verizonwireless.com/landingpages/edge/
If you scroll down to the "Get Edge in 3 steps" sections you'll see in step 2 that the device cost is split over 24 months, and step 3 states you must pay off 75% of the device.
Old Edge:
Net monthly device payment = ($850/20) - $25 = $17.50/month
Payments until Edge Up (60%) = 12 x $17.50 = $210.00
Total Payments (if you go 100%) = 20 x $17.50 = $350.00
Current Edge:
Net monthly device payment = ($850/24) - $25 = $10.42/month
Payments until Edge Up (75%) = 18 x $10.42 = $187.50
Total Payments (if you go 100%) = 24 x $10.42 = $250.00
So with the new Edge plan it would cost me:
- $7/month less for the same phone/ same data
- $22.50 less to reach the Edge Up point
- $100 less to own the phone at full term
The only downside I see with the new Edge plan is that I'd wait an extra 6 months to Edge Up, which I can live with ... or just own the phone at the end of the 24 month plan for $100 less than my current plan.
