Had this issue. I called Verizon. Told the automated rep: “phone won’t activate.” Automated had me turn off my phone, it activated and was good to go a minute later. I would definitely suggested the automated route.
Thank you! That fixed it, new phone is activated!

When I placed order at Verizon store they told me all I had to do was turn on iPhone and it would activate Not getting till the 8th but I don't have a 5G sim so hopefully they will activate esim for me.

Log into your account via web (can’t do this on app, I used the mobile site). Hamburger/menu button on upper right, click Account, on next page tap on the line you need to do this to. On the next page hit “change SIM.” On the next page it will ask if it’s a physical SIM or an eSIM. If you already have the eSIM on your phone but calling isn’t working, choose “physical” here (counterintuitive I know). Grab the ICCID for your eSIM from the about page in Settings, put it in the box on the following page, and continue through until it confirms it’s updated. After a couple minutes the line should work on your new phone and the old phone will drop to no service.
Thank you so much! This was driving me crazy.

Same as above. Left SIM card in my old phone. Called 611 on old phone. Told the automated line “activate my new phone”. New iPhone is turned off. Old iPhone disconnects call. Turn on new iPhone and it’s all ready to go on the eSIM
Thanks for this, worked perfectly!

Appreciate this! There was a 30 minute wait to speak to a T-Mobile rep. Updated my SIM via the web site and am good to go.

Had this error on two phones. Got it working on my phone by calling and giving them IMEI2. Tried for the second phone and they cant figure it out. Opened a ticket and said to check back in 24 hours. Insane. What a disaster.

What happened here??

Took me two tries. Since my cell phone is my only phone I setu’d google voice on my computer because I didn’t want to drop the call if it failed to transfer.

as mentioned above when Verizon ask for imei give them your Imei2 number and Imei1 number. Afterwords you will see you current phone deactivate and they will have you turn off old and turn on new (reboot). Took about 5 min total to activate. You will get a message on new iPhone saying activate or add carrier.

They ask for Esim ICID or something. What do you give to them?

Good question.. The tech did ask for ICID (I think ICID only applies on physical sims (big assumption)), I stated is not 20 characters like old Iphone.. He later said oh okay, let me try to activate with only IMEI2. It worked.

Did you call or chat?

First go I called 611 and gave the lady my IMEI(1) and it didn't work.. 15 minute wait time.

Second call I called from my PC.. Wait time was 40 minutes.

  • If you're an existing Verizon customer:
    • For a new line of service, contact Consumer Sales at (800) 225-5499 to activate your eSIM.
    • For an existing line, contact Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 to activate your eSIM.

I've tried chat a month ago wanting to transfer physical sim to esim because I was flying out of the country and wanted to use a prepaid sim, but was unsuccessful. They said to call the number above.

Stupid question while I am on hold for Verizon, I have done everything stated, tried the esim and nothing although everything is transferred over. So then took out my old sim card and placed in new phone. everything appeared fine. Logged into Verizon on the phone. It now shows Verizon in the left hand corner but nothing works.

UPDATE: after 25 minutes hold with Verizon, they got me up and working, sounds like they are swamped today and that for Verizon they really preferred the sim card to be placed in the new phone.

Is anyone else having issues with getting the eSim activated on Verizon with the new iPhones? After almost 2 hours, the eSim never activated and I had to call Verizon for help. They said I shouldn't use the eSim as my main Sim and that I need a physical sim. Is this true?

I popped my previous sim in and everything is fine, but I was under the impression that I no longer needed the physical sim and the new phone would automatically activate once I turned it on on the eSim.
False. They are going off of old information for devices with only a sim and a single esim. I just activated same issue. Chatted and in 10 minutes had it activated.

So annoying. I tried the method for T Mobile and it still won't activate. I called and was told some BS about not being an authorized user, which I am, after waiting over an hour on hold. So, I'm trying to twitter route but that's taking forever, too. I have two more phones to activate, too. Grr.

ETA: And, it's weird because it seems like it's half activated. It says t mobile and shows me bars. If I try to call out it just takes me right to T Mobile, though and iMessages says "waiting for activation"

Anyone get their esim activated that bought a carrier-free iphone from Apple instead of the Verizon model?

I used the 611 method, worked beautifully

Call 611 from the old iphone
Voice prompt will eventually send you a text message with a link for a automated chat
Click the link from the text message and an automated chat app will open
Go through the automated chat saying you want to activate an old line with a new device
It will ask for IMEI first then ICCID from the new iphone. Both numbers are listed in Settings--> General--> About under ESIM section of the page
Once the chat says activation completed then restart the new iphone
Wait a few minutes, if you still don't see a connection of unable to make phone calls, turn on and off airplane mode, then it should be working (I had to do this)

Also your old iphone will lose signal around the same time the new iphone is activated

Called 611 and what I got was a long wait so I said heck with that went down to the Verizon store nearby and had them activate it. Then I had to download iOS 15 update, which only took one minute.

I'm about to go to Walmart and buy a Straight Talk SIM pack and give Verizon the boot. I don't understand how they have their representatives that don't know how to activate an esim. It's been out for several years now

Out of curiosity, is your phone you bought for verizon? My sim free phone didn't have a ICCID until it was activated.

I did. I logged into my account online, not the My Verizon app and chose change device under account settings, entered
my IMEI2 for the ESim in the field it asked me to and was up and running in like 2 minutes. Very easy.

Had to call 611 and say activate device. Automated system activated and the call dropped on my old phone. All was well after that.
