I am traveling to Mexico from the U.S. for an extended period of time. I have Verizon and was looking for the best plan. I'll do mostly texting, some eMail, and not much talking.

I know when traveling to Canada, my Verizon service transferred to Telus when I got to Vancouver, but I do not know what happens with the tele in Mexico near Playa Mujeres... does Verizon switch over to TelCel?

Also, did/does anyone ever have any service issues while in the Cancun area?

there is even 4G LTE with telcel so no issues in cancun, my concern is that TELCEL is not a CDMA carrier but the 4S and 5 should roam no problem, just try not to use it much unless you're rich

I was in Cancun/playa Del carmen in June. I put a telcel sim in my Verizon iphone 5. Worked great. Had great data reception except Coba pyramids in jungle. Phone had 3 bars tho.
