Does a new iPhone from Verizon come locked straight out of the box? I just know that Verizon usually locks their phones for the first 60 days.

I'm only wondering, as I have two lines on my 13 Pro Max, 1 AT&T and 1 Verizon. I need both lines to transfer over to the new phone.

Anyone know for sure?

Yep, just upgraded my wife’s phone and it is locked to Verizon for the next 60 days.

Pro tip: if you obtain your iPhone from Apple directly, even if you finance it through your Verizon account, it is unlocked from day 1. This is true for all U.S. carriers except AT&T.

Depends on where you get it. If directly from Apple, it is 100% unlocked out of the box. If purchased from Best buy or other places like Target or Walmart. It is locked for 60 days. Once 60 day is up it auto unlocks itself. I've purchased 12 pm over at best buy before and it was locked for 60 days and I didn't had to do anything and when 60 days came it unlocked itself.

I understand purchasing from Apple it is unlocked. I'm talking about purchasing from Verizon direct.

If I purchase from Verizon, I'll have to call and see if they will unlock it straight away as I need my AT&T line on the new phone and can't wait 60 days. Been with Verizon for 15 plus years so who knows.

Yes, the phone will be locked to Verizon for 60 days. It will unlock automatically at the end of that period.

Verizon will not make any exceptions to their unlock policy (I’ve tried), except in very specific circumstances — like military deployment overseas. They lock their phones for 60 days now, even if you pay full price for the device up-front. In order to use your iPhone with two number assigned to different carriers, you will need to purchase an unlocked device from Apple. :-(

I would say most likely since it is eSIM so you can't swap a physical

Here is the policy from the Verizon website. If you need access to your ATT account, you could schlep around 2 large phones or enable call forwarding from your ATT number to the Verizon number. You lose the caller ID function on forwarded calls--they all appear as if they are coming from your ATT number. Not sure if one could forward texts though. You'd only have to do this until the 60 days have passed.

The alternative to buying an unlocked phone from Apple would be to purchase an iphone from ATT. If you pay for it up front, ATT will unlock the phone without a waiting period--it may take a few hours.

The CDMA network that Verizon has will be retired at the end of the year so there really isn't much advantage of getting a Verizon phone that may have CDMA capabilities. A lot of the cdma controversy is moot since it is 2g/3g and most phones now have 4g lte / 5g.
