Hmm, it shouldn't do that. Doesn't sound like the unlock was applied correctly. Try calling back and speaking with a different rep. It's possible they didn't do it right the first time.

They say it is unlocked - they know that the Truephone SIM won't work, the Global Roaming they don't know about but as I said it doesn't work either. Will test out another SIM card when I get to Australia.

hey guys im from Vietnam ...i purchased an Iphone 4s Verizon (no contract) a week ago ! does it possible for me to call to Verizon Global Support after 60days using for unlock this one ...???

hi all,

I left my verizon 4s in a taxi here in Saigon UGH. Can I buy an unlocked 4s from a store here in Vietnam and use itunes on my laptop to activate it in concert with adding the ESN to my account at verizonwireless.com?

So I am now unlocked for international use thanks to Verizon.

Followed the simple steps. Had to find a local tech who had international micro SIM's handy to finish the unlock process. Tested the phone using Orange, TelCel, Movistar and Rogers SIM cards. All worked including 3G data. Also tested a T-Mobile and AT&T to make sure US SIM cards do not work and they do not.

When switching from each carrier, you have to activate via WiFi or iTunes. Had no problem doing multiple carriers and going to Verizon in between. Just toggle airplane mode between each to make sure you are on Verizon.

You can call them if you pay for service for 60 days, then they will unlock it.

I don't think that Verizon will add the ESN from an unlocked phone, I know they won't if it's purchased in the US and I doubt they will from anywhere else.

Well I got my unlock and am roaming on AT&T thanks to a roaming Globe sim card from the Philippines that i cut to fit into the 4S. The unfortunate thing is I don't have 3G data access. Just voice and text ability. Oh well!

Have your friend call Verizon. Since it was from his account, he's better able to explain the situation versus a stranger like me.

Otherwise, sell that Verizon model and buy an factory unlocked version.

I should have asked Verizon to unlock my phone before I travelled here to the Philippines for the holidays. As it turns out, Verizon's partner here is Sun Cellular which has severely limited service. When I was with ATT, I had very good coverage here in the Philippines thru Smart and Globe.

That's unfortunate about Sun. I think they're only good in the larger cities like Manila and Cebu.

If you're still in the Philippines, you can still try to call 1-800-711-8300 and ask for an unlock. It might work. Sinulog Festival  is next weekend in Cebu. Maybe you'll get a baby Jesus miracle!

Thanks this method worked!

I called the VZN global support #, they knew exactly what I wanted, less than 5 mins I was done. I was worried though, because they told me they would email me a verification email, but they might have misheard my email address as I never got one.

I flew to Vietnam to Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and picked up a Mobifone sim card, had them cut it for me there with their sim cutter, and boom, reboot phone, got 3G running and full bars, all for $6 USD for many many minutes! I love how cheap data and service is in Vietnam!

I should have sold my phone in Vietnam and bought another one back in the states (many people haven't encountered the 4S yet). I could have made some money :)

I bought the phone from a person
how to know my phone has been used for how long?

Are you paying Verizon for service? If not they will not unlock it for you. If you took over someone's contract when they sold it to you then you can call Verizon and ask them if you can unlock it or how long you have to wait. You probably should have just bought a factory unlocked phone instead.

Sorry, back in the states now!

I've call verizon from Vietnam, they ask Verizon phone number but how can I have :). Asking they check the MEID and my phone not yet active so they can't unlock for me, I wish that I could pay them money for unlocking but I live in Vietnam how can I contact them, my English is bad also, just use the phone as the iPod touch

You can't pay them to unlock it, you have to have the phone activated on Verizon and pay the usage fees for 60 days. If you're out of the country I'm not sure that you can even get it activated. I'm not sure exactly what the cheapest plan you can get with an iPhone is, but if you can get it activated it'll probably be at least $100 for the two months of service. You're better off selling it and buying an unlocked one.

My phone was activated on Nov. 18, 2011 but I do not have a master contract subscribers, so I do get it unlocked?

I don't think November 18 was quite 60 days ago yet, but once you hit the 60 days as long as you have been paying the bill you can call Verizon and they will unlock it without a problem.

thanks , i will try
thanks a gain

just called and did the unlock - pretty painless. Only problem is that my china unicom sim apparently doesn't have a roaming agreement here in the US, so it won't connect to the AT&T network here.

Also, after the unlock, did anyone else have a problem where contact names weren't showing up in the SMS app? Instead of names, some of the message threads are labeled by phone numbers. Any ideas?

Pop your Verizon microsim back in and restart your phone. If that doesn't work them dial *228 then delete the phone and messaging apps in your multitask tray.
