You're obviously jailbroken.

Yup, but the jailbreak isn't taxing anything. All it did was replace png files for icons and such. MyWi or anything else like that was not running. I figured it out, I was in a bad 3G coverage area and it was switching back from 3G to edge and looking for a signal all day.

To see what apps you have running in the multitasking tray, double click the home button. At the bottom you will see all of the apps that are still open. To close the apps, hold your finger on one of the icons in the tray until they start to wiggle. Then touch the minus symbol to close out the apps that you want to close. Press the home button to stop the wiggle.

This is really great info. I was under the impression that when a user closed an app, say the compass, that it was really turned off. I checked mine and found tons "open" in the background. Does turning an app off (tapping the minus sign) actually stop that app from working, like my mailbox or calendar?

Do a backup and then restore. I was having some issues on my ViPhone for awhile. Seemed to happen out of the blue for some reason a few weeks ago. I decided to do a backup and restore and my battery life went back to normal. Not sure if it really applies to you, I've had my ViPhone from day one. But, it doesn't take long to try it.

This was driving me insane too. I love my iphone but this is the one flaw. I tried all the "maximizing battery life" suggestions, and it helped slightly.

I have one suggestions: buy an iphone battery case. I bought one off ebay for $29.99 and it is amazing. Nearly doubles the battery and is way nicer than the one at Apple (not to mention 1/4 of the price). The item number is 200795419418 on eBay in case you are interested.

Hope That Helped!!

This thread has been dead for more than a year; why would you bring it up again?

FACT: CDMA technology requires more power than GSM technology, particularly in standby. The difference is quite large in standby. CDMA maintains a constant connection with the tower. GSM just "checks in" every once in awhile.

This. I switched from ATT to Verizon last summer and noticed I did get a better battery life from the ATT version.
