CDMA is a bag of hurt.

it may not be the most desirable, but give apple credit for listening to customers wanting it now..i trust it will be a good quality phone and device lacking world roaming and SIM Voice+Data , but its better than not having another option at this point, atleast we got through the tough part of getting it confirmed on verizon. it can only get better.

Nope, youre the bag of hurt. CDMA at least makes quality phone calls, which is the purpose of the phone.

Regardless of it's bag hurting, the CDMA release allows for customers who previously couldn't purchase the iPhone to get one. Simultaneous voice and data is a fringe case. The other disadvantages (US only, no SIM card) are also low blows, but again aren't really huge problems in the grand scheme of things.

Oops I meant to say that CDMA is a world of hurt. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Only like 30% of Americans own a passport, and not even all of them travel internationally.

This argument doesn't really matter to the vast majority of Americans.

Gah, this is a bad thread. No one read what I said. I said QUALITY PHONE CALLS on Verizon. There is a reason why they have more subscribers. Since the people of so full of it on this thread, here's a present for you. ATT is the world of hurt:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1078865/

Here's a tip. Use what works for you. Don't like AT&T? Fine, use the Verizon one.

Everyone can stop bashing the other now. It's getting old.

Verizon iPhone is going to depreciate much faster than a GSM iPhone...so yes CDMA is a world of hurt. Whos eager to answer the compatibility questions that will come up?

*Sigh...not only do I stay in the MacBook section because its my new toy but I don't get ruffled by stupid comments like this. UMTS is superior to CDMA2000, its just that AT&Ts failure is associated with the great technology. Next time just look it up real quick or use those critical thinking skills.

Depreciate faster?- Well folks, there we have it. Yet, another reason Verizon is no good. This 17 Year old iPhone Value expert has called it.

Why do these arguments continue?
AT&T tower huggers should be happy, you finally have competition out there and hopefully AT&T can stop bending you over.

The war is over...soon all carriers will get the iPhone and everyone can do what they want!

And less than 30% experienced poor 3G service & dropped calls. Can we also call that a mute argument? ;)

Actually, it is. It's the ITU's IS-2000 standard.

I like how Dan avoided explaining the negative side of CDMA. "It will be the same as our current CDMA devices" when asked about receiving data while on a call.

I don't know where you've been, but people have been buying and selling GSM and CDMA versions of new and used phones for a decade now.

They both get good prices. If anything, popular CDMA models can demand higher prices because they're harder to find than their GSM cousins.

Whos eager to answer the compatibility questions that will come up?

See above about the past decade.

Ads usually read something like "Blackberry for Verizon" or "Blackberry for AT&T". It's not that difficult to comprehend.

Regarding the voice-data issue, I'm confused about this. Say I'm browsing in Safari and get phone call, what happens? What if I have Pandora playing and receive a call?

Browsing or Pandora pause...call comes in....when you hang up browsing or Pandora continue.
