Can't wait to see iPad3 sales numbers for the quarter after it's released.

They're going to be awsome. It seems like everyone I know has been holding out and waiting for the retina display on the iPad. I'm personally ordering 3 for my family the day they become orderable. We've been reading books for too long on our little iPhone4 screens.

Verizon is the most expensive of the four carriers in the US.

Yes, but well worth the significant decrease in dropped calls.

You don't get how additional competition could affect Verizon's iPhone sales?

But Verizon is not the one that went from the only iPhone seller to being 1 of 2. AT&T already did that & outsells Verizon with the iPhone. Yes adding Sprint adds competition but AT&T weathered that so Verizon must also. So if you add one you need to add all. Plus you must remember that the iPhone 4s was rated as one of the most disappointing tech products of 2011. Just think if it was rated as one of the best new tech products!

Poor 4 million suckers. As reported by AppleInsider yesterday "iPhone 4S call audio issues to remain with new iOS 5.1 build"

Both AT&T and Verizon customers have been affected by the audio issue, and while hanging up and re-dialing the call seems to be a solution, some have reported the problem occurring on back-to-back calls.

I wonder if Verizon will begin to report the same way that ATT does: activations.

ATT's numbers usually count not just new sales, but activations of used and hand-me-down phones as well. E.g. you buy a new 4S and sell your old 3GS to someone else on ATT. That's two activations.

'Haters gonna hate...'
I am currently reading the biography of Steve Jobs. The iPhone will never be killed by Android. Steve's passion for creating top-tier products, with the golden thought being "ready when it ships," passed down to his employees is why this phone is winning. User-friendly GUI, no ability to tweak with the core functionality, quality over quantity, etc. define the iPhone.

Yes. And I don't know why we worry about how many Android phones have been sold. As long as Apple continues to produce high-quality, high-value products with superb customer service they will be just fine.

It will be easy for Samsung to make a new commercial. They just need to hire more actors to make the lines longer.

Huge disappointed for Samsung apparently. They are very disappointed that Apple is selling so many iPhones. I think even Microsoft said that Apple finally had a misstep when they unveiled the iPhone 4S (the one they keep hoping for now that Steve Jobs is gone). They also said the same thing when the iPad was unveiled.

Yup -- I am amazed out how many "iSheep", "Fanboys" and "Baristas" there are in the world. It's too bad that the general consumer public with common sense can't seem to rally around a great smartphone (or maybe they have?). It would almost seem like the general common-sense consuming public actually wants a smartphone that does not make them spend hours tinkering with it to make it just perfect for them. Somehow reliability and general all-around quality and ease-of-use are more important than being tops in a couple of specs. Imagine that.

My sister-in-law who has an HTC Thunderbolt wants an iPhone so bad and her husband (my wife's brother) is a huge Android fan who grew up during Apple's worst era. He can't stand Apple products and bought them both Galaxy Nexus phones for Christmas. She told him that all her friends have iPhones and the ones that don't have iPhones keep going on about why their Android phone is "as good as an iPhone". Her comment: "Why would I want the one that is as good as an iPhone, when I can have an iPhone".

All she wants is a phone that works great with minimal tinkering, has good battery life, never crashes, fits in her hand, and takes great pictures. I told my brother-in-law that his wife is Apple's target/ideal customer, and even suggested he get her a Windows Phone if he hates Apple so much, but instead he got her a phone with a 4.65-inch screen that will never fit in her small hands. Mind you, the Nexus with ICS is a great phone, but its not the right phone for her. He ultimately got them both the same phone because he was tired of her Android phones having issues that he did not know how to fix because they were using different phones. That, in and of itself, is a problem. She can't get her phone to work, and with him being away from home for work, he could not trouble-shoot it from afar. Instead, with all of Android's options, she is now going to have the largest smartphone ever made because he cannot support it otherwise. The giant Galaxy Nexus is likely perfect for him at 6-foot-3 with giant hands, but not for her at 5-foot-5. Kinda ironic that the constant difficulties she had using an Android phone led to a decision to buy two identical Android phones to ease the support rather than switch from Android.

Ease of use and great overall quality is why Apple is selling so many iPhones -- it has nothing to do with hypnotizing legions of iSheep.

That means that by your saying that his wife can not handle the phone because she is a small 5' 5", which is an inch taller than I am, that the phone is too large for her. Then our 4.35" screened Android smart phones must really be to large for my 5' 0" tall wife with really small hands. But then our iPhone 4s, Verizon by the way, having to be in a glass protecting case is 1/3 thicker & otherwise the same sized as the much larger screened Android smart phone. My wife has no problems with holding & using her Android smart phone. In fact she to this point does not like to use the smaller screened & heavier iPhone 4s.

Because we have a several year old iPod Touch running iOS 5 & an iPad 2 I was hoping that that the iPhone would fit in better than the Android smart phone does. But so far the report is that we both prefer the Android smart phone more. The only thing that I would give the higher rating to the iPhone 4s on compared to our1.5 + year old Android smart phone on would be battery life. But then part of that could be because no one wants to or does use the iPhone 4s.

If my wife had wrote this reply she would have even been more negative about the iPhone 4s. We both use various Macs, an iPad 2 & several iPods as well as an iPod Touch. Our only computer that we have ever purchase that will boot natively into Windows are our Intel Macs. So don't say we are anti-Apple.

Yes, but well worth the significant decrease in dropped calls.

Not much difference between 2.1% (Verizon) and 2.8% (AT&T). AT&T's speed advantage clearly makes up the difference (3 times faster). Who uses a smartphone as a phone anymore?

I'm pretty sure you took my comment completely out of context.

Really? Where did you see it was the most disappointing? I believe Cnet gave that phone an editors choice award in October and they haven't ever given one to an iPhone.

That's because it could have been so much more that it is. People wanted 4g LTE but that would have been un-Apple like to have this so soon, even without talking about the power usage. A larger screen was wanted by most, me included. My 4.35" Android smartphone screen is so much better sized.

The glass iPhone may look nice, but the one purchased for me is in a double Otter Box case. This makes the length & the width the same as my Android smartphone but then makes it at least 1/3 thicker. No wonder Apple did not put a larger screen on the iPhone 4s. It would have come out to be as big as one of my old Newtons.

Sometimes these rumor sites make it very hard for the final product to be anywhere near what the rumors have grown it into. I know that I do not feel that life would have ended without the iPhone 4s. In fact I haven't even turned it on in the last couple of days. I never turn my Android smartphone off. If we keep our expectations more realistic then maybe there would be more products that are really successful that we would treat like they are successful. Like for a table to be successful of phone the same wouldn't good profits be what we would use as a gauge, not if it sold more than the iPad or iPhone 4. With this in mind I would think that the Kindle Fire, the Nook & the iPhone 4s would be rated as a success.

The best way for Apple to ensure I wouldn't buy a new iPhone would be to make it's form figure as huge as the device you are talking about. I prefer not having to figure out which apps work for it and which don't so the screen resolution has to be consistent. I have fairly large hands but like being able to text and operate my phone easily with one hand. I have co-workers who have these huge phones and I hate dealing with them when they ask me to help them figure out how to do something on it. You seem to like these android phones, good for you.

Wasn't this supposed to be a "disappointment", that received a lukewarm reception?

Keep in mind that most hardcore Apple users are no different than a one year old banging his spoon on a high chair. You just give them spoonfuls at a time. If you give them the whole meal at once, they will throw it across the room and ask for more.

The reality is that Siri has been much better received than anticipated. Before Siri, there was not a successful, mass market voice recognition engine that went beyond power users and niches. The magic ingredient that Apple put into Siri that others did not was a sense of humor and jokes. My favorite nerdcore thing in Siri is her response is when you say "Open the pod bay doors."

Well heisetax - there is a name for your results in the polling industry.

You and your wife are outliers yes the mother of all outliers as it relates
to the iPhone 4s experience and Apple earnings will show just how phenomenally popular the 4s is. One other thing, the MO of most bashers or contrarians is to comment how many Apple iPhones or laptops they own or have owned.

Awww, you didn't get one for Christmas ? Too bad for you.

Good job understanding obvious sarcasm.:rolleyes:

Really? So you would say the Android is more responsive to your finger when you move around on the screen than the iPhone?

There are many Android phones. Some of them are more responsive than others. Samsung Galaxy SII is indeed more responsive to your finger than iPhone.

Used em both. The SGII feels like I get about 1/3 the frames as the iPhone when I move around on it, and it ignores about half of my touches. Sorry, it's a problem with the core of Android, it doesn't prioritize UI process highly enough.

But d00dman the faster RAM makes videos load faster
jk

I love how some of the ads for Android phones say that "you can download stuff at 2.4GHz (really fast)!". That's the radio frequency, not the bitrate, and they are not directly related...

This really doesn't surprise me. As an AT&T customer (grandfathered Unlimited data I won't give up) that had to wait after 5 days during preorders for the iPhone 4s (so far I am a S iPhone person after first jumping on the 3Gs). :apple:

Why is your iPhone 4S in an Otterbox case when any Apple Store will replace broken glass for $30???? I have not seen your wife's hands, but I am constantly hearing my sister in law complain that she can't use her 4.35-inch Thundebolt with one hand. She also has to shut off 4G LTE or else her battery runs out in no time. Note that the Galaxy Nexus drains 1% per minute when actively using LTE - since it only charges about 1.1% per minute on a wall charger you are basically treading water if plugged in. On a car charger (which has less power) you are only delaying the inevitable (you get 4 hours max of Google Navigation with LTE active with the car charger before your battery is dead). She showed me the screen for selecting the the wireless mode on the Thunderbolt. Android or HTC provides 5 options for choosing CDMA versus LTE or some combination thereof. Some are obvious (like the one for auto switching between CDMA and LTE) but the others are confusing to me (very tech savvy) and a complete mystery to her who just wants her battery to last.

But if you enjoy your Android smartphone then keep on enjoying it. Your experience and preference does not invalidate mine or my sister-in-law's. Nor does mine invalidate yours. I just believe that Apple's chosen the right way to make a smartphone that will appeal to the greatest number of users, and that is why there is no Android phone that can touch it in sales. Android buyers are dividing their preferences among the many many models. But according to user satisfaction surveys and mobile web usage statistics, Android users are by and large dissatisfied with their smartphone or not even using it as a smartphone.

But if it is right for you then keep on keeping on - the iPhone is certainly not for everybody. My brother-in-law will never own one -that's for sure.

You honestly believe that buggy beta Siri and her quirky personality are the saving grace of the iPhone 4S??? I'd have to go with the awesome camera, snappy processor, faster RAM, and faster 3.5G data speeds. Siri is fun and handy in a pinch, but it needs more training to live up to its potential.
