I'm not a Verizon customer and this is probably a silly question. Why are Seattle and Portland not covered by 5G Ultra Wideband?

No, it indicates a technology. They can still throttle the speed.
Anyway paying extra for mmWave is a scam because you’ll pretty much never be on mmWave and when you are, you won’t be watching 4K movies on your tiny phone screen anyway. This is total Marketing BS!
If it’s saying you have unlimited technology that is defined by its speed than you are being offered unlimited that speed. Please, stop defending this sort of behavior.

At this point, Verizon can't justify charging extra. I'd rather see Verizon and the rest of carriers improve coverage and, IMO, the Map Coverage is misleading. I've been in smaller towns where the signals is horrendous where either I get no signal and/or it is not even showing 4LTE. The 5GUW is very limited in areas but I did test the speed when I did get it. The download speed is as advertised where it was over 1GB, however, the upload was very dismal at around 15MBP. For my needs, I want to see improvement in coverage areas in the form of more cell towers.

I have Verizon and their signal is so weak that I need to go stand in the middle of my field to get a LTE signal. However, their coverage map shows strong reception for my area. I end up using WiFi for my calls and data needs. Verizon reminds me of the Wizard character in the "Wizard of Oz".
You're holding it wrong. :)

5G is dead in the USA. It's been a nightmare rollout over the past 12 months, the coverage is EXTREMELY limited, and the average speeds are just a tad faster than whatever is currently on the cell towers. Verizon and others have been pushing 5G advertising extremely hard for 12 months and nobody's buying it (or buying the promises). 5G was first launched in April 2019 by Verizon (close to 2 years ago) and look at the mess (at least hear in the USA).

My bet is that it will be at least another 4 years for 5G to be a)widely available and b)give the promised speeds of all the advertising in the USA. Me? My AT&T 45Mbit downstream and 5Mbit upstream is just fine for my non-WIFI usage living deep in the burbs of Connecticut.
