AT&T and Verzion have a significant data collection/data storage infrastructure, I have personally works on some projects. Far from dumb pipes

I agree with the other guy. We REALLY DON'T CARE, about those "added value". Plus 25Gb, what a joke, if you going to give at least give 100Gb. I have 100Gb for free just from all the other companies.

This is like when you buy a car and the dealership put on bunch crap, and charge you for it, when you ask them to take it off they just tell you they can't do that.

While they might not be a dumb pipe, most people just care about Unlimited talk, text, data, plus good coverage at a LOW LOW price.

I just looked and they changed my 2gb plan to 3gb without telling me, but the price stayed the same. I changed it back to 2gb like I wanted, so it's a $10/mo savings. Still too expensive, but Verizon is really the only carrier with decent coverage in my area. Now they just need to change the damn contract back to 20 months so I can finally cycle the 4s...

It looks like I'm getting an extra gig of data for the same price as I'm currently paying, and it appears to take effect today. This is good and why I love competition. Cellular plans are still ridiculously expensive, but I'm happy T-Mobile exists. I would switch to them if they offered service where I live!

change to your current data instead and save $10

Still not biting and planning to jump to T-Mobile when my contract with AT&T is up this October.

Who cares about 25 GB of cloud storage with Verizon? They'll keep that around for a year or so and then likely discontinue it due to lack of customer interest.

They should have made the cloud storage an optional add-on and included the 1 cent/minute calling to Canada and Mexico with the new plans instead of making it cost $5/month after the three month free trial.

Then, they would've been the first large U.S. carrier (to my knowledge) to offer unlimited worldwide SMS with no per-message charges and 1 cent/minute calling to Canada and Mexico. That would've been a heck of a lot more competitive.

I am just 2 or 3 months into a Verizon contract -- was paying $80 (+ fees/tax) for 500 MB (the minimum that they offered when I got the phone). I logged into my account and saw that they had increased that to 1GB for the same price but I was able to reduce it to their newly available 250 MB level. Bill is now $55. I'm almost always around wi-fi and use less than 100 MB and don't mind saving $300 a year. I am surprised they let me make the change before the contract was up.

Meh

They upgraded the bandwidth caps for people who don't use much to begin with. Added cloud storage that no one uses. Wrapped up normal network upgrades with new marketing. And made the pre-paid device upgrades marginally less of a bad deal.

Why is this impressive?

I promise you won't regret it :)

I regretted it last time, and I swore I'd never put another dime in that company's pocket. But pricing, and the fact that VZ doesn't seem all that concerned that I have a major coverage issue in my neighborhood (dense suburban in a town with a population of 110,000) is forcing me to consider it.

The irony is that TMO is the one who is really forcing this all to happen, but their service is just not reliable enough to win me over, even though I like their attitude and aggressiveness.

Verizon lets you change the amount of data you're paying for month to month without penalty. Over the holidays when my family was traveling in the car more, I changed our data plan from 2 GB to 4 GB. A few days ago, I lowered it back to 2 GB. Now, with the new plan, we have 3 GB. If we don't end up going over 2 GB after a month or two, I'll change the plan back to 2 GB and save us $10/month.

^YMMV

The difference between the VZW plan I currently have and a comparable ATT plan is like a $1. And, Verizon LTE is much faster than ATT's in my area.

For kicks and giggles, I priced my current plan under this more everything plan, and it's the same price. Oh, well... All wireless carriers here suck.

Same here. I guess those of us that have been paying for and using 4-6 GB (or more) can continue to pay the same price.

It's at times like these I'm glad the T-Mobile/AT&T merger failed. More infrastructure for T-Mobile and plenty of disruption into the industry. Competition is good for the consumer. I have a little under a year before I decide if I stay with Verizon, go back to AT&T or possibly jump ship to T-Mobile.

I'm right ther with you. Thinking of going T-Mo next iPhone release.

I must be missing something, as this prices out exactly the same as the current plan I have now. Color me confused!

Guessing you had more than a 2GB plan...

Is this replacing Verizon's current "share everything" plan? Do I automatically get double the data for the same price?

If you had the 500 MB or 1 GB plan you do. If you had a 2GB plan you get 50% more. Everyone else? Same as you had.

Sooo... does my 6GB Share Everything Plan get automatically upgraded at the same price, orrr...?

Yes, to the NEW 6 GB plan at the same price (that is what I have) :D

They took that away so they can charge you for the privilege of upgrading early.

So, "double" may be an overstatement.
Yup.

I had my hopes up

Wow, the gap widens even more.
With 4 iPhones and 10GB to share, AT&T costs $160 before fees while Verizon charges $260 before fees. Yes, Verizon gives you 25GB of cloud, but that's not even close.

So i get to text the friends I don't have who live in other countries for FREE?! :D:eek:

Yup! I'll share my overseas contacts with you, so we can both take advantage of this great new feature. Ready?

...

Enjoy!

Wow, so Verizon will only "discount" the $40/month smartphone fee if you're on their Edge plan? They won't give the same discount if you bought your phone outright (like AT&T does)?

I thought it was interesting that comparing the Next/Edge plans on 10GB+ data plans, AT&T gives a bigger smartphone fee discount per month ($25/month discount vs Verizon's $20/month discount), but then turns around and charges an extra $5/month more for the monthly device cost ($32/month on Next vs Verizon's $27/month on Edge, figuring a $649 16GB iPhone). Wash.

Wow. That's pretty impressive. I see you're on an Android phone. I'm curious to know which Verizon iPhones are able to take advantage of this network upgrade? Is the change going to be beneficial to the 5s only or will the 5 get some love still?

EDIT: Never mind, I assumed from the blueish color scheme on the app that you were using an Android device. I see now that the iOS app has that color scheme. So, are you using a 5 or a 5s?

If it's some sort of a general LTE improvement, then any phone that supports LTE on Verizon should see the improvement (in areas where the improvement has been implemented).
