so last year everyone hated contracts and this year when you can buy a phone on an equal payment plan, everyone is pissed off that you actually have to pay off the phone before buying another one

It's also designed as a trade in program. Verizon wanting a phone paid off 75% after one year for trade in is insane. They are essentially saying your $650 phone is worth $165 after a year. That is a ripoff in anyones book.
