Are you doing this??

Sounds just a little dumb.

What's the obsession with unlimited data? The opportunity cost of not having an iPhone for x amount of time is more than any overage you can pay.

I am. Can't upgrade for a few months, might as well lock myself into unlimited instead of paying 5 bucks less for tiered

Don't worry about the iPhone 5. It's likely to still be a 3G phone, so unlimited data will still be available.

Also there is no guarantee that when a 4G iPhone does come out, that verizon will grandfather anyone with unlimited data plans. More likely than not, they will have no problem getting people to switch from unlimited 3G plans to tiered 4G plans with the iPhone. iPhones sell themselves, so no reason to give any grandfathering specials.

Nice OP. This is definitely a good idea for those who can wait for an iPhone 5, but also want unlimited data. The price for that phone off contract isn't bad either ... just to have as a backup phone or something as well. It would be fun to take WebOS for a spin too, while you wait.

Well that's aggravating

For $50, I don't think its that bad to get a WebOS device to hold you over. Should be interesting to try out.

But if you have it right now it shouldn't change correct?

We don't know. AT&T let people continue with their unlimited data, and that's what people expect Verizon to do ... but they are two different companies so we don't know.

I personally believe that Verizon's tiered data is going to cost similar to the iPad plans.

1GB - $20
3GB - $35
5GB - $50

*edit* actually, that looks too expensive.

Great, now I can pay an extra $40/mo for who knows how long in the off shot that the grandfathering actually works  Unfortunately like most things, you're only grandfathered for so long, and its never usually long enough
