$20 Dollars is pretty crappy if your cell phone is your only means for communication for no use for half the day.

Me and my family (immediate and extended) all use Verizon - but we're all in California - none of us had problems that we were aware of. I won't be applying for this (because we were not affected).

I can see why they prefer the Mobile app - it authenticates you better cuz it can verify your number if you're a Verizon Wireless #. You can use it as a 2FA for your account too. We use it (the mobile app).

We've been with Verizon for 16+ years now. It has been having quite a few outages recently. Last year it accidentally locked me out of my ESIM and couldn't fix it for 48 hours because of a "security" update. It was very eye opening to not have cellular at all for 48 hours.

Makes me seriously consider adding another e-sim (dual e-sim) just for security / ability to access the internet when I'm out and about. I used to have Mint Mobile for $180/year (unlimited). Looks like they're still offering that for new customers.

Sure, don't automatically apply it to an account or anything. Those elderly folks that don't use apps will definitely miss out now.

Definitely a lot better than the $5 other carriers have done in the past, and it's actually pretty generous.

My Verizon bill is $70/mo, so $20 is essentially the equivalent of 8.5 days of service in my case. Even if your bill was $200/mo, $20 is the equivalent of 3 days of service. Can't complain about that!

The fact customer action is required shows they are hoping customers forget when the option isn’t there and two, they don’t respect the customers time.

Sorry we had time yesterday you couldn’t use your device. Please spend more time to get the necessary credit. Worst provider out there

Ridiculous. No need for a class action lawsuit. We do people automatically go there ? They had some troubles and now its been fixed. Are you one of those people that sue when someone looks at your wrong. Good grief.
No, I'm one of those people who sues when a large corporation is careless with a critical service and then offers a token gesture to make it right.

I believe Visible and Straight Talk also reported outages.

MSN: "Mobile virtual network operators that use Verizon’s network, like Visible, seemed to avoid the worst of the outage and continued to work normally even while Verizon’s main network was down."

That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the impact for MVNOs were regional.

same as the sears coupons. when said ceo removed them and just straight up offered discounts, customers did not "feel" they were getting a deal. it is psychological. same BS for the .99 prices which i hate.
Funny thing about specials. CompUSA had this $9.99 bin for DVDS, manager said they sold very few. They changed the price on the bin to 2 for $19.98 and they sold a lot more because people thought they were getting a deal

Isn't it obvious?

Verizon has to pay out less when people are required to take action and ask for it. For some people, they might mistake the text message as spam and not bother reading it.

🙂

They've since raised the prices here, but my local Dunkin Donuts did a funny thing for those with math issues - a 3 pack of Munchkins [donut holes] cost 99c. A 5 pack costs $1.99.

Those who have had their caffeine and are awake enough to math, understand that getting two 3-packs [for a total of 6 munchkins], is a penny *cheaper* than getting a 5 pack. 😀

Good thing I am not their CEO, I would have credited like one month of your phone bill, even if I had to sacrifice my bonuses to make it happen.

Stuff happens, hardware fails etc, none of our top three phone services should ever tolerate a failure like this.

Back in late September 2024, Verizon was down for 10 days here in western NC due to Hurricane Helene. They sent mobile cell towers to some areas, as I saw them on the roads, but it did not help my area. No way to call family/friends/emergency services as people needed help due to the flooding, etc.

Verizon, when I asked them after they restored, would not offer any discount for the 10 days of no service, since it was a local issue, covered in their TOS. I guess when something happens nation-wide, that's different?

Hmmm, I just now received that text message. A text with a link to click on made me assume it was some phishing scam.

Yeah, on the outage map, it seemed to be mostly southeastern half of Usa.
