Didn't Verizon abandon plans to expand its FIOS footprint several years ago? If so, it seems like this deal will only be applicable to a small subset of VZW subscribers.

A little off topic but I'm going to vent anyway.

Since Verizon announced their unlimited plans, I've tried several times (4-5) to get them to waive their asinine activation fees so I could more easily switch from AT&T.

They refused.

So now that AT&T has a like-minded plan, I'm staying with them.

Verizon will be losing out on $3600 per year from me and my family plan because of the industry's stupid fee practices and their stubborn unwillingness to waive them to attract customers.

Pathetic.

I'll enjoy my AT&T plan. Eff you too, Verizon.

So to be clear...you're upset because you feel entitled to having your activation fees waived and they wouldn't play ball? It's a standard industry practice that EVERY carrier does. They have always done this. And simply because YOU don't like it, and they won't budge, you're upset???! I'm frequently irritated by people like you who think you're owed or deserving of something simply because you exist.

I hate that I have to buy extended protection on my car for repairs...I'm just going to stomp and scream and stop buying cars until they start giving me what I want.

Get over yourself.

I'm referring to the back and forth competition throughout the month of February. It has been pretty wild lately. I know T-Mobile has always been lower, but this seems significant for people who have three lines like me—which usually get left out in the cold on two line and four line promotions which are usually better deals than what I can get on a price per phone basis. When you factor in that I'm already receiving a 20% Verizon discount through my work, the fact that it's still $38/mo lower is laughable. I'll be calling T-Mobile today to figure out how to best transition to their network, as my grandparents are the third line I pay and they are down in Florida for the winter, so I would need that sim to be picked up at a store near them.

Do you have a 6s or newer, or one of the latest Android phones? They take advantage of T-Mobile's 700MHz spectrum, which is what TV signals used to run on. It's supposedly a much better experience on newer devices. I've got two 7's and an SE on my plan, all unlocked, so I'm solid.
Yeah, Galaxy S7E and iPhone 7. The coverage is great when I get it, but Chicago does not have the spectrum live yet that gives good building penetration. In the hallways? Dead In my apartment, 1 bar. It's a shame, I really like what T-Mo is doing publicly, just with they had the network to back it up.

Google Fiber will obsolete Verizon FIOS along with the price gouging cable ISPs.

We the consumers willingness to switch, few longterm contracts are having a positive impact on consumer pricing from carriers. Keep up the pressure!

I don't think that Google fiber is expanding beyond cities that they aren't already serving. So if you live in one of those cities, great. If not, then you may have to wait a long time. I don't think Google is making the money that they thought it would.

Pointless. Unless you're in select areas of select cities, FiOS is not even available and Verizon is not expanding it. Their CEO even said they have no interest in fiber, years ago. There was still investigation going on somewhat recently about whether or not they even fulfilled their contract with the government for fiber installations, for which they received huge subsidies.

In most of the USA, you're lucky if you can get crappy DSL. Where I live, it's Verizon's crappy DSL, or crappy and expensive cable from two other companies.
