Hi,

I have a family plan with four phones:

1) HTC Thunderbolt
2) iPhone 4
3) "Dumb" phone
4) "Dumb" phone

I am not eligible to upgrade any of these lines till 2012.

Could I add a new line and drop one of the existing lines to get an iPhone 4s?

Thanks

If you are not eligible, then you are in a contract. So you can, but you will get a new number and have to pay a early termination fee to break your contract.

You can always add a 5th line for 9.99 a month to get the i4S at the new pricing then switch the phone to one of your existing lines that wants the phone.

(Edit: AT&T story. Verizon may have more common sense)
That's not 100% certain. I had a line once that was not in a contract, but not eligible for an upgrade. I complained and complained, but they weren't able to use common sense and give me an upgrade. I had added the line and never gotten a discounted phone, but the upgrade date was still set almost two years in the future. I canceled the line and added a new one.

Hmm extra line at $10 a month, for about 14 months (my contract), is $140 bucks, way cheaper than buying an iPhone at full price, good idea!
