Why bother buying at a carrier store in the first place? Just go directly to an Apple Store and buy it there. Since the Xs/Xs MAX came out (minus launch day) they have been available daily. Easy as pie and don't have to worry about any carrier restricted rules. Don't stress yourself over this. Life can be much easier.
This wasn't a carrier store, and just a reseller it seems.

I am sensing a similar trend here in the Bay Area. Most of the Verizon stores are ran by a company called Victra.

I hope enough people realize this scam and put a stop to it. Sounds like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen.

Unless I’m completely wrong and Apple is allowing this. Seems unlikely since the bundle includes cheap products found on amazon for a few bucks.
Those are NOT Verizon Corporate Stores. Please Please Only Go To Verizon Corporate Stores Only. Victra is a Verizon Retailer like GO Wireless and Cellular Sales. Please Skip these 3 store and Only go to Verizon Wireless Corporate Stores, Sams Club, Walmart, Best Buy, Costco, Apple Stores, Target. These stores will sell you just the phone if that is all you want. DO Not Shop at Victra, GO Wireless or Cellular Sales.

When I got my X last December through the Verizon IUP I had to pay all taxes up front($97.40), I live in the Phoenix area

Curious. You say "IUP." IUP is an Apple thing... unless you are just meaning to say Verizon financing.

Really?? I originally ordered my XS Max through Apple (with the Verizon payment plan) and decided to take advantage of the buy one get one at Verizon... in both cases I had to pay tax up front...

Just for shivs and giggles, I decided to see if I could find my order confirmation email. Here we go... with personal info removed.

Yes financing was through Verizon upgrade program. I also remembered I got my X while home for Christmas in Chicago December 2017 because none were available in Phoenix before I left. Maybe that’s why I had to pay all the tax up front. My apologies.. Is the tax included in your monthly phone payment then?

This is why I stopped going to Verizon Wireless retail stores. Went to upgrade one year with my wife and we refused to get insurance on our phones. The lady insisted, got visibly upset, told us to our faces that we were idiots, then slammed her tablet down and told us she didn't think she could upgrade our phones unless we were willing to get insurance and would have to talk to a manager. We told the manager we were extremely offended, at which the manager just laughed in our faces as we walked out of the store.

We made a point to never do business with a Verizon Wireless retail store again, and haven't. We've been to Corporate VZW stores and actually have had good experiences there.

Like @Newtons Apple recommended... go to an Apple Store. We did and for many many years now haven't looked back.

Well, not sure if you went to an actual corporate store or a reseller, but the corporate stores basically don't do things of that nature (and are usually fairly good in their service) and it's usually the resellers (as appears to be the case in this thread).

Oh yeah, my bad, it was a mall reseller VZW store. Definitely get a much better experience at a corporate store (we went to one that night after our experience and it went very well). I'll modify my original post. Thanks!

It was. But that was a while ago. I am now back with T-Mobile. They paid all my phones off and I got to keep them with #GetOutOfTheRed
