Hi everyone,

i just read this article about the single device plan from Verizon:

https://www.theverge.com/2020/9/15/...e-watch-carrier-plan-lower-monthly-cost-price

My setup is that I have a company iPhone on ATT and the company does not allow to add an Apple Watch with LTE to it, just GPS. At the same time, I am very interested in having an LTE watch With keeping it to one phone. Could I use the single device plan, pair it with that phone and use the Verizon plan for non-wifi connectivity on the watch? I do not care about a separate phone number, it would be for Apple Music and emergency FaceTime audio calls. I do not care about phone calls as much. This would be a great way to stay connected via the Apple ecosystem without the need of a phone.

thanks a lot!

Unless things have changed, the carriers will not allow you to have an Apple Watch with LTE on an account without an associated iPhone.

It seems like from reading the article, you’ll be able to use the LTE through Verizon even though you don’t have a phone with Verizon.

You are going to need to have phone service with Verizon to add the watch. You can’t have the phone on AT&T and the watch with Verizon by itself. It won’t work that way.

I assume you are correct, but the description on the website indicates otherwise. I will call them tomorrow and ask.

I just checked their plans for single device. Apple Watch excluded.

Yeah, my interpretation of the article is that this changes with the family setup. Will talk toVerizon today to find out

Whenever I dug into this, it's the same answer, you need one of the "real" phone plans. However, depending on your location there may be MVNO's who are more accommodating than the big, I guess 3, now?

If you have Comcast, you might check their plans, it looks like they'll let a watch only in.

It's very strange to see Comcast do something decent for their customers, so I worry about it. I know in my case, I signed a contract with them, and they tried to raise my rates 2 months in, when I called them, the first support guy told me I was lying about my contract. And every year my internet rates go up and the data caps appear.

But then ATT, Verizon, Comcast aren't exactly America's most beloved companies for a reason.

How would it work if you have a phone with Verizon and a watch with Comcast?

A separate number for each? Would everything sync?

Sorry, I did see that, but scanned too fast to register it. My post probably wasn't that helpful in that case.

I assume it would be a separate number, and I have no idea if everything would sync.

It seems to me it might get more flexible in the future, but Apple also seems to limit flexibility. For me the websites are just annoying, because the explanations are crap and do not define things properly. But that’s part of the game nowadays I guess.
