Hi All,

I admit that I am overwhelmed by all the math of the many different plans between Apple and the carriers, in my case, Verizon.

For starters, I have about six months left on my Verizon contract. Therefore no discount available at this time. Is it possible for me to just pay off the remainder of my contract? I do not want to terminate my service, lose my number or anything like that - just want to know how to have the line show as no longer committed to a contract. Is that possible or am I stuck?

Thanks!

You could do the new Apple upgrade program. Taking the carriers out of it is a great thing.

My contract is up in October of 2016, but I got a reservation for 9/25 to pick up a 6s or +. I'm done with dealing with VZW for my upgrades and being under contract. Once it's up I'll go on their monthly plan and save a bunch, but for now it works.

I would call Verizon and ask about your options. It costs more to do a subsidized plan on Verizon so it is better to buy the phone outright (or use their financing). The only question is whether you would have to pay 2 line fees for 6 months or not or if they would let you buy out the rest of your phone so that you can sell it.

Last night they offered me an early upgrade but I was only a month out (10/09). But I had to trade-in my current phone. That wasn't worth it to me since I have a 5s but it may be worth it for you, depending on what phone you have. Assuming they even offer it to you.

Thank you very much!

Anyone else have any experience in getting out of a contract a few months early - short of terminating service and paying the ETF? I did read that the ETF is $350, less so much per month through the contract. Perhaps it is just a matter of paying that amount, although I wonder if that could be to just terminate the entire service.

I think you made the right choice! I would not turn in my phone to upgrade a moth early either! Good call!

the only issue with that is you won't qualify for the carrier discounts on the data plans. Atleast thats what an apple specialist told me.

For verizon, the new plan is actually cheaper. The line fee with the previous plan was $40 with a $15 discount. The new plan is $20 line fee, so you save $5 over the discount by using the verizon plan. No discount required.

can you get the $45/3GB and $20 line fee without their finance plan?

EDIT: hmm it appears you can. Is it just ATT that offers the discount then??

Verizon just introduced the Verizon plan to replace the More Everything. So they are phasing out the $40 fee charged for people who buy subsidized phones and the $15 discount they give to those that don't. If AT&T has a new plan, they might also offer a cheaper line fee than you would get with the discount but I only know Verizon and I had a Verizon rep talk me through it on the phone.

oh i see. So there is no discount to get over verizon's upgrade program versus apples?

EDIT: the base payments are cheaper on verizon though. Verizon 64gb 6S is 31.24/mo versus apple at 36.58/mo.. that'll save you close to $70 if you upgrade every 12 mo. I might go with verizon despite the apple care +. You'll only have the phone a year any who.

The new plan is just overall cheaper. I was paying for 15GB, I get 18GB for same price and I think I can drop to 12GB because that is usually where I sit anyway in terms of usage. I was paying $20 + $25 for mifi + iphone, now I'll be paying $10 + $20 + $20 for mifi plus 2 iphones so it costs me $5 more per month to add a new iPhone. I also like Verizon's service as I tried AT&T in my area and it was just poor. I've never had a problem with my Verizon service though.

We have 3 lines on Verizon contract thru Sept '16. I'm thinking I would like to get 6s for two or all three of those lines. Is that possible to do? Would we sell our existing ip6 and then have to pay an ETF w the proceeds? It appears there are no more subsidized purchases available. Right now our monthly bill is $168 w a 20% corp discount for about 5GB a month in data. If we did 6-10GB month in data, approx how much would our new plan be on Verizon? I figure approx $130/month just for the 3 phones. TIA!

Are you able to get a 20% discount on Verizon? My company offers discounts on both Verizon and AT&T.

Your line fees would be $60 for 3 phones. Verizon has the 6GB option for $60 or 12GB option for $80. If you went with the 6GB option, that would be $120 plus whatever taxes and fees.

Yes I can get 20% corp discount. So that would be 20% off of the data pricing alone, not the $20/line fee?
