Does anyone know if the Verizon iPhone 4S, or Sprint for that matter, will be able to talk and surf over the cell networks now? I understand it was previously a hardware issue with the CDMA chip not able to do both data and talk at the same time, though with wifi it was possible.

It's a CDMA limitation itself not a limitation on the wireless chip. You won't be able to talk and surf until an LTE enabled iPhone goes to Verizon.

Svdo

there is a new CDMA tech hardware called SVDO which is an upgrade to allow surf and talking on the networks. it has something to do with the network but also the phone hardware. i couldn't find anything that stated if the iPhone 4S is going to be equipped with the new chipset.

You use that once a year max.

uh..not gonna lie, I use the two quite frequently, and while it's not the end of the world if you can't, it would certainly be an inconvenience alot more than once a year...

I actually use this very often. I switched from AT&T to Verizon when they got the IP4 not knowing exactly how much of an impact that would be in regards to the whole talk while surfing issue. Along with a few other reasons, my wife and I swapped back within a moonth. Maybe not imp to everyone...but it is to me
