Don't know about that. They were the first company that SJ approached. Ok, so at the time they didn't jump on his business proposition. But it's all water under the bridge now. SJ needs Verizon in order to sell more iPhones and to halt the growth of Android-based devices.

apple is selling every iphone and ipad they are making. apple doenst need Verizon to do anything.

Not sure if this was mentioned yet, but what about using slingbox? You can use it over wifi & 3G. And no monthly fee. I don't have an iPad but use slingbox over the iPhone.

Ever stayed in a hotel on business? I say business because on vacation I rarely see my hotel but on business I battle between reruns of law and order, CSI, and criminal minds. I would LOVE to be away from home, on wifi, with TV that extends past the aforementioned shows.

Huh? The service described in the article would only be for users of their home-based FIOS wi-fi networks. How in the world would that extend to some far flung hotel room????

Man I want FIOS.

You're not the only one. I live in New York and there are people who only live a couple of blocks away that have it (for about a year). For some reason they're taking their sweet time spreading the fiber.:(

Once I get FiOS, a Verizon iPhone and maybe a next gen iPad, I'll be one happy camper. No more Crime-Warner, no more ancient 4-year old LG "dumb phone" and as much as I like my 3rd gen iPod Touch, I would like a bigger screen.

Jobs didn't approach Verizon first. He approached Cingular (at&t), when Cingular couldn't make up their mind they decided to try Verizon. Verizon turned down the deal & went back to Cingular & Cingular decided to give it a shot and gamble the deal. 5 years later, it turned out to be a success between both Apple and at&t.

..."alternative viewing options beyond the fixed-location television set".

Are you kidding me, "alternative viewing options beyond the fixed-location television set". In my opinion, It will remain television in a fix location. Why, well, if verizon is going to provide data unlimited service at a low price, than it will catch on. But if you still have to through AT&T than the whole "alternative viewing options beyond the fixed-location television set"experience is ruined. I think that if TV comes to the IPAD, its for it to be able to portable and viewable anywhere, not limited to just viewing in you in all the different rooms in your house because you can only stream through your home broadband connection.

Is it just me or does that iPad pictured look like the rumoured 7 inch version expected to come out later in the year?

And the iPad's capabilities keep getting better and better.

Not to me. The iPad just looks small because of the black border and big case.

I might care, if Verizon showed any signs of offering FiOS in my area. After all it's not like anyone in the same city as MIT might want a fast Internet connection, right?

I've read somewhere that FIOS is strictly being limited to a few cities on the East coast, with no plans to roll it out to any other cities for a few years, while Verizon "evaluates" the system. Still, online ads touting FIOS want you to waste your time checking for availability in your area by entering your zip code. Big Red should just be honest and admit that FIOS can only be had in a grand total of about three zip code areas altogether. Verizon doesn't seem to be in any hurry to tap into such a lucrative market. Puzzling.

Yeah... just something more to fuel the rumors. Jobs hates Verizon almost as much as he hates Adobe or Blu-ray. I don't see an iPhone or iPad coming to them unless Apple feels its market share is really threatened. It could be years at this point. Who knows?

Maybe Verizon should upgrade their sh-tty 10 years-out-of-date mobile phone network; who the hell uses CDMA apart from Americans? get with the F-cking programme and move to W-CDMA/HSDPA like almost every other network around the world has.

Seriously? In the U.S. they have the best coverage by far. It's not the fastest network, but for me (Virginia to Vermont) I can make a call everywhere. That includes trail or on the water. CDMA will be around for phone calls for quite a while. Plus I heard they are deploying LTE at this time. That's not too bad in my book.
