Right -- XLTE was just a marketing term for band 4 LTE, whereas LTE-A is just B13+B4 / B13+B2 / etc. CA, no?

I wouldn't call CA "just" something, since it took a lot of work to implement :)

Among other changes, CA requires new modems all around, which is why only newer handsets and updated carrier networks support LTE-A.

While it won't be much use for mobile devices, Verizon supports three carrier aggregation, which in theory means a fast stationary station (home? office?) could get over 300 Mbps.

How about making a more affordable cell phone service instead? We're half way through 2016, and cell phone services are still ridiculously overpriced. Increase in speed is nice, but what good is that if you have to pay an arm and two legs for it?

It's all relative.

I remember back in 2001 when we paid $45 a month (~$60 in today's dollars) for 19 Kbps.

Verizon simply sucks as a company. We lose the internet at least four times daily. Its almost impossible to enjoy Netflix or Hulu or any iTunes video because its snail paced. Music via the iTunes store staggers upon downloading because verizon connectivity is so poor. Trying to read or access verizon email is sloth-like. I wish this company would just fold.

Verizon today announced a new marketing push for "LTE Advanced" technology that brings 50 percent faster peak wireless data speeds to 461 cities across the United States. The company marks LTE Advanced as the latest improvement on current 4G LTE technology, which it first introduced in 2010. Besides a collection of major cities, Verizon LTE Advanced will cover "loads of less-served places including highways, interstates, country roads and rural America."

LTE Advanced is not a new technology, with Verizon and other carriers working over the past couple of years to gradually roll it out through "carrier aggregation" upgrades that allow multiple bandwidth channels to be combined for faster speeds. Today's announcement from Verizon does, however, signal a major milestone in reaching coverage for 90 percent of the U.S. population.

The LTE Advanced upgrades come to Verizon's customers at no additional cost, with speed boosts and coverage kicking in "when you need it most," from day-to-day smartphone use to vacation trips. Verizon LTE Advanced will work on one of 39 devices already on the carrier's network, including the iPhone, Moto Droid, and Galaxy S6 and S7. Verizon's LTE Advanced deployment currently uses a combination of two- and three-carrier aggregation, with two-channel carrier aggregation resulting in download speeds of up to 225 Mbps under ideal conditions, compared to "typical" speeds of 5-12 Mbps.

Whenever new smartphones from Apple, Samsung, and other companies are released, they will support Verizon's new LTE Advanced service out of the box, and pre-existing smartphones on Verizon plans will automatically upgrade with "no extra plan costs, no settings to change, and no indicators to check." Verizon calls LTE Advanced "the next-generation of wireless technology" and hopes to continue expanding the technology's reach, and upgrading its abilities to offer three-channel carrier aggregation with theoretical speeds exceeding 300 Mbps.

All while many people have perfectly fine experiences with it. While others have similarly bad experiences with all kinds of other companies.

Are you seriously complaining about faster speeds? Wow.

Didn't you know anything any corporation does is bad, and solely intended to siphon money from the OR? If not, you really need to read more posts.

Are you talking about Fios or Cell? They are pretty much run as two separate businesses. I agree that Fios has really gone downhill.

Do you also wish AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile would fold? There are people out there having problems with each of them as well.

BTW, Verizon with working flawlessly for me, though I'm only seeing 54Mbps at the moment from LTE. You want them to fold, so I won't have that any more? If Verizon isn't working for you where you are now, why not just switch to another carrier instead of complaining?

VZ is such a joke! Where is VZ superior to At&t?? I've tested in NYC, ATL, Charlotte, Orlando, VA, etc and never has VZ come anywhere close to the DL speeds that At&t has........and you still can't surf & talk! #cdmablows!!

Sure you can, with advance calling.

I actually used to work for Verizon, and even back then toward the end of it I wasn't a fan of what Verizon was doing to its customers and yes, I switched to T-Mobile. My store manager never found out, of course. I had friends at the store, and I told them that I left Verizon as a customer because I felt T-Mobile was a better value even without a corporate discount. By the time of my last week on the job I flat out told a customer that T-Mobile offers unlimited data for $80 (at the time) and that's what I had. Just being honest, I think that's closer to what they were looking for for their family. She was very grateful and probably a little shocked. All I wanted was to provide good customer service and technical support, and I was so sick that I was always held back by some sort of red tape by Verizon or the need to have to try and hock $200 worth of accessories with every phone to make some kind of money and keep my job.

I no longer work in the wireless industry at all actually, if you must know.

But Verizon VoLTE is limited by not being able to handoff to CDMA, resulting in a dropped call. It happens more than you think, Verizon does not have a perfect network and I've run into more than my fair share of 3G areas with Verizon.

You used to be able to talk and surf on most Android phones on Verizon on I believe 3G, maybe 1X, but that's because those phones included two radios to give it that ability. Once Verizon phones all started only having on radio, the limitations became far more apparent. Sprint doesn't even have VoLTE whatsoever yet. CDMA in general is a huge pain in the ass.

Totally worth that $150+ a month bill, right?
There is no perfect network and I travel the southwest desert areas and generally always have at least voice; like taking PCH south to Santa Barbara. On the east coast, I can't remember the last time I dropped a call and have voice+data enabled on my 6s.

and ALL Best Buy employees will give you the most miserable experience.

This isn't true. Not everybody at Best Buy is awful. In fact, during my short stint as an employee at Best Buy, my managers were always giving me pep talks to "boost those numbers!" because my numbers were always at the bottom of the rankings. It may or may not have been part of the reason they tried to coax me into terminating my employment.

Why? I didn't push. At all. Hell, a lot of the time I wouldn't even make an initial push to begin with, I know how it feels to be a customer. You just want to get your crap and leave and don't want sales pitches crammed down your throats.

Not everybody at Best Buy is there with the mindset to cram pitches down your throat. A lot of them are... but there are some good people there too that won't annoy you. ;)

How about Text and Talk then? They can't do that. My friends have 6 or 6s phones and I'll send them a pic over text while talking and they don't receive it….. riddle me that!
The answer to your riddle is your friends aren't intelligent enough to enable VoLTE on their phones. Have them google enable VoLTE iPhone. It's in settings menu. Once Voice over LTE is enabled you can talk/text/surf same time.
