This is a bit misleading as it is the price per month for 4 lines! One line starts at $80/month. (Plans below are not the recently updated plans)

Perks? Aren't these downgrades to all but the highest plans? I also wish articles like this would list the "unlimited" limits, specifically when they throttle as that's what the plan should be judged on. I'm still on an old 16gb + 2gb rollover XL plan because I'd rather not be throttled. My plan is cheaper than the cheapest Start Unlimited which doesn't even have a throttle threshold.

No, you'll have to manually switch to one of the updated ones. Otherwise nothing will change for you. As stated in the articles, there are trade offs that need to be considered.

In my case. I don’t see a trade off. I already get Apple Music. And one free year of Disney. So unless I am missing something. I would get to keep the Apple Music. Plus it looks like Disney, ESPN+ and HULU would be thrown in at no extra charge. With the get more plan.🤷🏻‍♂️

Seems like there's a huge chasm right now between having a plan where you can be slowed down at any time, and 50-100GB of premium data. Where's the plans for people like myself who don't use more than, like, 6-8GB a month but want guaranteed data when we need it?
I've been saying this for years. The prices on the "limited" data plans are absurdly high and most carriers have unreasonably few options if you don't want "unlimited." (Not getting into the "unlimited" definition debate... IMO all of the plans are limited, as a speed limit, or deprioritization, is still a limit.)

That being said, I used to share 15 GB of data in a family plan of 4 for ~$120/mo after taxes and fees on AT&T. A single line was something like $80/mo. Today, if you go to AT&T or Verizon, most of the single line "limited" plans top out at 8-9 GB and are close to $100/mo. If you need more or need a hotspot, you're basically forced to choose "unlimited," and you still get stuck with a bunch of fine print limits. Hotspot limited to "4G" speeds, even when 5G service is available. Hotspot limited to a hard data cap or gets hard throttled down to 128kbps. Phone speeds subject to deprioritization after arbitrary limit like 22 GB of use.

But for some reason, everybody I talk to loves these "unlimited" plans. It's insane.

I wish we had competitive prices in Canada. The big 3 — Rogers, Telus and Bell — have a stranglehold on services and charge whatever they like.

It’s not much better here. We have Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. They always find a way to keep your bill at least $100 a month. Unless you are grandfathered in under a cheaper plan, but the moment you change the plan you’re paying around $100 again. Progress!!!!! Or not...

Instead of 75GB of premium data, you'd only get 50GB. You'd also have video throttled to SD unless you manually activated the HD video in your online settings. This could be a total non-starter if you're a big hotspot user, as the 30GB of high speed hotspot you get also counts towards your on-device premium data (same as the current Get More plan). So theoretically, you'd only have 20GB of premium data if you use your whole high-speed hotspot plan allowance each month. Also, sucks that you're automatically enrolled in SD video unless you opt out.

That's the point. They average it out the cost to them because not everyone uses it, but advertise it as full price to make it seem like a great deal to everyone.
It is a great deal. Since the average consumer has to pay the retail price, if you opt-in to one of these plans, you get the aforementioned services for free to you.

I’m confused. So if my current plan includes Apple Music, I won’t loose access to Apple Music unless I switch plans?

I currently have the old Get More Unlimited. 1 year of Disney+ and free Apple Music.

I think I’ll hold onto it until first year of Disney+ and ESPN+ are both up then switch to the top Verizon Plan.

I was going to mention that -- I looked at my plan options and the numbers were very different. Looks like my plan would be $10 more to add hulu and keep Apple Music for the life of the plan. Not worth it lol

I hope so -- Im definitely now switching my plan.

This is the price per line if you get FOUR LINES. Macrumors - you should mention that in your article... sheesh...

I'm with ATT right now and I'm paying $66 total (with taxes and fees) per month for myself. That's reasonable. It's also their base plan, and they can slow you down at any time. No "premium" or "gauranteed" data as they call it.

It's not reasonable at all, it's disgusting. That plan should be about $35 a month. The amount individuals pay for mobile phone plans in the US is out of hand.

Right now im on the PLAY MORE plan for $45/mo. Comes with Apple Music unlimited (not limited to 6 months)

can i stay on that or will i have yo upgrade to the new $55/mo plan to keep apple music?

jacking my bill up $30/mo forcing 3 lines to upgrade

I read their terms and conditions and it appears you can stick with your existing plan (Disney+ for 1 year and free Apple Music) or switch to the new Play More Unlimited plan. I'm assuming if you choose to switch to the new plan, you'll have free Apple Music for 6 months starting from the date you switched

Hoping they allow us to stay on our current Play More plan.

I wish VZW and ATT were a bit friendlier with their single line plans. The plan prices always look good until you realize it's set to 4+ lines. You can add about $30-35 to each of those prices and that's what single line gets you.

I think VZ + ATT have those plans.

I'm currently on the similar low-tier unlimited ($75) on VZ and looking at dropping to their 5gb ($55) or 10gb ($61 w/ my discount) plan.

ATT has a 3gb (50$) and 9gb ($60) plans.

Setting aside whatever "average consumer" means, some are subsidizing the cost of the extra services for others if those some don't need the extra services but are on Verizon. Bundling is good for those that need everything in the bundle, but generally bad for people that don't need everything in the bundle.

It still comes out to half your kidney when you add up all the taxes and fees..
Yeah, I will just pay $23/month for Disney+ bundle and Apple Music myself instead of paying $10-20/month per line over competing providers.

So Verizon includes 600GB of cloud storage but still caps voicemail at 40 messages, which are at best probably 1mb/ each, and doesn't ever tell you when your mailbox is full so people who call you and can't leave a message have to let you know. Got it.

I’m currently with T-Mobile and will be switching to Verizon once the iPhone 12/iPhone 12 Pro’s launch this fall. I’m currently paying $70/month for unlimited text, data and talk and 15% job discount. The only perk I have is international data and text to Mexico and Canada which isn’t unlimited. I’m on a grandfathered plan so I don’t get $5 off for auto pay, Netflix or any of the other perks that come with the plans, hence why I am switching to Verizon for the Get More Unlimited for the new perks and 20% discount through my job.
