I purchased my phone directly through apple.com via apple credit card and will be delivered tomorrow. you telling me Verizon will still charge an activation fee even though the phone wasn't purchased through them?
yes. it's how it's always been. used to be $20, then it became like $30 now it's at $40. BUT Verizon will give you a $20 credit on your next bill.

I moved homes and I got 5 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up at my new house even though T-Mobile’s site says I should have excellent service. Sometimes the uploads are so slow (0.1 Mbps). This wasn’t the case in my last home.

T-Mobile just turned on the capability for customers to manually switch their radio to the Sprint network and after trying that, it wasn’t any better. So T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T both suck where I live.

I lost home internet for 30 minutes the other day and I was supposed to have a work meeting. I couldn’t get a stable connection from my T-Mobile iPhone hot spot so I left.

My first bill with Verizon is going to be $440 (includes $200 in activation fees). My previous bill with T-Mobile was $140.

I’m hoping T-Mobile gets their act together where I live because I’d drop Verizon and their sleazy tactics real quick.
Makes sense and I get it. I’m so leaning on the fence and might go back to T-Mobile before it’s even been 1 week with VZW. All these fees. I was told by an online chat specialist I would not pay an activation fee if I left within 14 days. So torn.

It’s funny, you would think Verizon would lower prices a little and get rid of fees and then they would just rush T-Mobile and everyone else...but they don’t.

I left the IUP because of this ridiculous fee. I’d rather go through the hassle of selling my phone myself than be extorted by VZW. This fee is theft, plain and simple.

I tried T-Mobile for about a week and could not get a signal inside my house. Even when I went outside, I had only 1 bar. That was the end of T-Mobile for me.

Do you mind me asking which part of the country you live? I must say, I drove from NYC to FL and back last year, and never had an issue. We did stay in a house in Vero Beach FL, and I didn’t get a good signal in the house. Other than that I was fine.

even my parents in upstate NY, I get decent service. I live in NYC and never ever had an issue. I wanted to help my folks and bring them under a family plan under me as it would be cheaper. But with all these fees and not much service difference, I might be going back to T-Mobile before the end of this week.

Nope, that’s why you don’t get charged the upgrade/activation fee. Just pop out your SIM, put it in the new phone, turn it on and it should be good to go.
The only caveat on this one is if you have an older SIM, it won't be 5G capable so you'll have to go to Verizon and ask for one. Luckily they're usually pretty generous and won't charge you for it.

Welcome you Join a quality network it cost gotta pony up
You really think that the fees are justified and VZW is THAT much better than Tmobile? I will say, I went to Italy for two weeks last year and my GF had VZW international plan and I had Tmobile international plan. I got way better service than she did the whole trip. I understand domestically Tmobile is a little less than VZW, but still.

I have the big V also, and their fees are awful.
Would you ever switch to Tmobile. I just called and asked if they would waive the $80 in activation fees, they said they would try and get back to me shortly. I have heard from several people after I have switched that it is rare to see a consistent bill from VZW. Tmobile it was always $140 for 2 lines for the magenta plus.

Yeah this is the one thing I just can't stand about Verizon. The thought of it seriously boils my blood. I just bought a phone from you, I took the SIM card out of my old phone and put it in the new one and you're going to charge me $40 for..... what again?
It’s even more annoying when it comes to the Apple upgrade program since Verizon isn’t even the one financing it. Last time I complained about that, the Verizon shills were saying $40 is a reasonable fee for Apple to verify your account or some bs like that.

I just buy my phones sim free now (and don’t feel the need to do yearly upgrades anymore either way)

I would love to get away from Verizon, but where I live geographically, Verizon is really the best coverage. So for the time being, I'm kinda stuck with them.

near Virginia Beach, VA

I am debating going back. I live in NYC and I must say I never had an issue with their service. When I get upstate, like kind of the stix then I get 1 bar. But for the most part they have been great. I even spoke with a relative in the UK not over wifi, was charged an international fee of $60 and the waived NO problem. So torn, because everyone says VZW is the best etc, but Tmobile is not too far off!

I never really got this and how something like that has been able to stay around all these years too.

May I ask why you switched. Same. I have $in activation fees, not as bad as you. I am thinking of going back to Tmobile ASAP.

Probably because T-Mobile sucks. I have a coworker with it I talk to a lot and he drops all the time.

Lol, harsh but okay. I am not sure sucks would be what I would use. May I ask where you are and he is? Just curious where they really fail.

We run freight for a big shipping company out of Michigan into Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. We are all over the place so I get a good representation of each. I literally never drop a call but his phone hits quite a few dead spots. Sucks is a relative term and probably is a bit harsh. I mean T-Mobile is quite a bit cheaper. As far as these fees just get the unlocked version from Apple and you won’t see them. I bought 3 iPhones last year off an eBay seller and never got charged when I swapped sims.
