Thats awesome....but are you sure that isn't just the generic Google maps app? They may use the same GUI on Android.
Looks exactly iOS to me
All those elements but the pins and the map tiles are Apple's iOS.
why would Verizon do that? The android version of google maps destroys the apple version in every way
I didn't believe it at first, but it turns out to be real!
Is there a link to this ad somewhere?
Never mind thanks Jeffrosproto! that is crazy! Maybe there are preparing to see what the iPhone UI look like on their website
direct linky courtesy of the "activity" window in Safari.
HAhahaha.. they all want to be like iPhone...
Looks like google maps to me. Apple doesn't have any exclusive agreement that I know of. And consider that Android is made by google, why wouldn't they use their own maps...
And for the idea that google maps on android "destroys" the iOS version....why shouldn't it? Why wouldn't google have an accelerated version for its own OS? Microsoft has been doing that for years.
Yup, that image circulated around the web when google first put ads in Google Maps for iPhone: http://www.funkyspacemonkey.com/google-ads-displayed-iphone-maps-app
Google does in fact own the maps. However, how the maps are displayed and the UI are controlled by apple. And that picture is clearly the iOS UI.

That's how Google Maps looks on my Galaxy S. The UI on the add is clearly iOS.
Verizon Wireless clearly sucks at Photoshop.
As bad as BP or Microsoft?
They took the picture from a blog *complaining* about the Maps app because of the recent inclusion of ads. I'd say yes, they really fail on this one
True but the location label is clearly iOS and not how I see it on my Droid X, the map is indeed accurate and specific to google. The OP is only part of an epic fail.
Sure, because it TOTALLY looks like android.
Yeah. I'M the one who failed
So, it looks like that website is hotlinking their background image or something?
Now Gizmodo running with this story http://gizmodo.com/5702150/verizons-got-a-little-iphone-in-their-droid-x-ad
Maybe Verizon is hinting that the iPhone will be coming sooner than you think.
If you follow the above links now, Verizon has changed the image. It now looks like Android.
I was wondering how long it would take someone to say this is a sign of the iPhone coming to Verizon.
Clearly, this just some marketing drone's mistake.
somebody will get fired today...
The ad department probably is clueless about why it causes a fuss at all.
They no doubt thought that Google Maps looked the same everywhere.
