  • Model: MN482LL/A

This is interesting. Could it be the Sim Free? If you look at BB website, it is the same model for Verizon, Sprint and At&T. My Verizon 128GB in black is MN5T2LL/A purchased from apple store. It is like target - they do not have SIMs inside the phones. They pull all from one stock and gets the proper SIM to activate.

Interesting indeed. For the iPhone 7 256GB in black that I'm looking at it's MN8R2LL/A for the AT&T, Sprint and Verizon models on the Best Buy website. The same model purchased full price from Apple online is MN9N2LL/A for AT&T, MNC82LL/A for Sprint and MNAQ2LL/A for Verizon.

Can you purchase a Verizon iPhone on iUP without Verizon account or only by paying full price?

There actually is a difference, and it has nothing to do with the Sim Card. With a sim-free, you are not required to have a carrier account to purchase it full-price.

Right now, T-Mobile is the only carrier that does not require an account if one purchases it full-price. However, with a sim-free model, which "should" support both CDMA + GSM will not require an account, which is the one I'm waiting for since I'm currently on T-Mobile.

I Picked up 1 Verizon on Saturday without any account info and 2 more yesterday. I don't even have Verizon. So you are obviously wrong.

Are you even reading the thread? There are at least 100 people who have asked this same question In this thread or the other reservation thread.

Would an unlocked verizon 7 work on Sprint?
my Verizon phone, I paid in full (at Apple store, yesterday) is working on both my Sprint and MetroPCS services. I did have to call each to get the phone activated with my SIMs. but that was after leaving the store without any activation to any service provider.

I don't believe that the Verizon iPhone 7 = Sim Free iPhone 7. If that were the case, what would be the point of ever releasing a Sim-Free iPhone 7?

Now, I understand why people think it will be identical, but something tells me the Sim Free edition may have a few more tricks up its sleeve. For example, that Japanese NFC-like frequency (whatever that's called) and maybe support a few extra bands or what not.

I'm merely speculating here, but so is everyone else. To come out and declare that these will be identical phones is pure guess at this point. I don't understand how some people can "know for a fact" that the phones will be the same when the Sim-Free model hasn't even been released yet.

I'd like to know this as well, and vice versa (Sprint iPhone on Verizon).

In the past there have been reports from forum members that their unlocked iPhone wouldn't get activated on either Sprint or Verizon because it wasn't on either companies "whitelist" of phones they would allow on their CDMA network... whereas the SIM-free model had no issues getting activated on any US CDMA type carrier.
Unlocked Sprint will work on Verizon if you already have an active/working Verizon SIM card. Just swap SIM cards and you're good to go.

If you don't have an active SIM, trying to activate new service becomes a crapshoot depending on whether or not Verizon has the IMEI/MEID of your Sprint iPhone in their database. Last year, around Sept/Oct 2015, I noticed Verizon added IMEI/MEID for T-Mobile and AT&T iPhone 6/6+ (https://www.verizonwireless.com/bring-your-own-device/). However, members with newer 6s/6s+ mentioned their devices weren't in Verizon's database yet.

No idea if Sprint has opened up their network. Last time I researched them was in 2014 and back then, you couldn't even do a SIM swap. The SIM card was tied to a specific device.

Good point. I've forgotten they had that JP model. Question is whether NFC used in that device will be compatible in the US. The JP model does have 2 extra LTE Bands (11-1500 MHz and 21-1500 MHz).

If you took the time to read my previous post, you would see that I mentioned I was wrong as I've previously always ordered and paid online and never at the store.

Wrong.

Full price verizon and sprint are true world phones.

Full price att and tmo are GSM unlocked.
The official sim free doesn't exist. Possible Sprint and other carriers won't activate because IMEI isn't in their database

at a Sprint store, tell them to whitelist it which can be done according to their March 2016 (or was it 2015?) Playbook. they do this with Sprint over the phone. at my one local Sprint store, I have a go-to person who's the only one that will do it for me. the others will fight ya and say you don't know what you're talking about.

Nice, so you've gotten a verizon phone to activate on Sprint's network?

Wow so many clueless people out here.
Nobody knows what the unlocked version of the phone will be. I remember a few years ago unlocked version was the same as the ATT which wasnt compatible with Verizon or maybe it was but it was missing some other LTE bands (dont remember 100% but it was something along those lines)
There is an unlocked version everywhere in the world, including where i am from, Canada. And that version is the one that is sold EVERYWHERE else in the world including US (which is the ATT version). Only country that is different is Japan (maybe some other Asian countries, but i think its Japan only). What makes you think that the official "UNLOCKED" version sold on apple.com will be the verizon one. Nobody knows, HOWEVER if it isnt the verizon version, then Verizon model is the true "UNLOCKED" phone for 99% of the world.
At this point, any phone paid in full is UNLOCKED for GSM use, or should i say GSM/EDGE/LTE use, since GSM and LTE in theory are not even part of the same technology. People assume that a SIM card makes it a GSM phone, which couldnt be further from reality. ATT Phone purchased at a full price is IDENTICAL to the phone purchased "UNLOCKED" from canada or any other country that sells that model. Only thing that could be different is that it will contain an ATT SIM card.
If you arent planning on using Verizon and/or Sprint on your phone you can get TMobile or ATT, or canada, or any other country in full price and your phone will be the EXACT same phone.
If you are planning on using Verizon/Sprint then you should get those models. I am not sure about whitelisting IMEI equivalent numbers to the providers. From what I heard and read from the most accurate encyclopedia "internet" verizon and sprint whitelist phones now, so in theory it does not matter which one you purchase.

yeap. since this year the Sprint and Verizon versions are the same model, I was able to have Sprint whitelist my Verizon IMEI. for the 6s Plus, I had the T-Mo version whitelisted. for the 5s, again, it was the Verizon version I had whitelisted.
I imagine most people don't have a goto guy, and don't want to jump through those hoops. Just wait for the official version seems the easiest path to me.

before she became my go-to, I ran through those same hoops. it wasn't till one so-called Level 3 Technical Rep (of many) told me that when I go to the store, to mention the March 2015 Playbook which most Store Reps usually don't know about. these were technical reps that were saying 'yes' the store reps were saying 'no'. took a while to get past the runaround.

edit: btw, just so it's clear, I didn't even have to have Sprint whitelist my IMEI like I've had to do with my non-Sprint iPhones in previous models. they activated it as if it were their own.
