As of April 22, 2012, Verizon Wireless (VZW) initiated a $30 fee for all customers upgrading from one device to another. Article Discussion Thread. This fee is not applied onlywhen paying full (unsubsidized) price for a phone. While I've spoken with one rep. who said this can't be waived, I wanted to crowd-source MR.

Has anyone been able to negotiate and either get that fee waived or been able to get other credits to negate it?

Thanks for any input,

I switched my phone last week (iPhone 4S -> Droid Razr Maxx), no fee and they supplied the LTE SIM card for me. They never mentioned any costs either.

EDIT: I brought in the phone. I did not purchase it from them directly. Perhaps if you buy from Amazon or Best Buy you won't have to pay the fee but if you buy direct you do?

It's if one purchases a subsidized phone from VZW (I.E. New Every 2), then one is charged with an additional $30 Upgrade fee.

Upgrade fee

The upgrade Fee will not likely be waived. The big difference between verizon nd AT&T is that Verizon charges it upfront AT&T puts it on the bill.
