How did you get BT working on the LG VX8300? We're also looking at the VX8300 and BX5300, as well as the Motorola V325i. I had been thinking of sticking to Motorola phones b/c the Apple website says Moto phones are iSync-compatible, so I figured there would be less of a problem with drivers and such, compared to LG phones.

thanks! :)

Bitpim. Download it and you are off and running with a BT connection to the vx8300 and your mac. You can load ringers, copy the addy book, even upload games.

Some Moto phones (the RAZR 3c for eample) are compatible with iSync. The address book will synch up.

I'm sorry for all my dumb questions, but I went to the Bitpim website, and it only shows downloads for Linux and Windows. Also, does Bitpim work with the LG VX5300 and/or any of the Motorola phones? thanks! :)

I've seen people on cell phone forums say that they can download photos from the RAZR with a USB cable for free. presumably they were using Windows...why is this not possible with Mac OS X? :(

Is there any phone in which a USB cable would work with a Mac?

IT's not mac related. As far as I know, they must not be using Verizon. The OBEX (object exchange I believe) is disabled by V so it doesn't matter how you want to transfer the data, you can't do it without their system. I had tried to install hack files to change this with no luck.

You didn't look hard enough then.

The first paragraph on their website:
BitPim said:
BitPim is a program that allows you to view and manipulate data on many CDMA phones from LG, Samsung, Sanyo and other manufacturers. This includes the PhoneBook, Calendar, WallPapers, RingTones (functionality varies by phone) and the Filesystem for most Qualcomm CDMA chipset based phones. To see when phones will be supported, which ones are already supported and which features are supported, see online help.

It will work on the vx 5300. Here are notes from the help section:

  • Tested with both Bluetooth and direct USB connections.
  • Phone does not support memos and has no SD card.
  • MP3s go in the "ringers" folder, not the MP3 folder.
  • Some problems when downloading large collections of camera pictures, may need to download them one at a time rather than as a batch.

  • I'm still confused b/c it says on the BitPim website: "You will need a cable that plugs into your computer and into the cellphone." The LG seems to require a nonstandard cable that costs $40 from Verizon. When they say the VX5300 was tested with both Bluetooth and USB connections, do they mean they also did the initial set-up with the bluetooth [as the general help section says you need a cable]?

Also, BitPim says it works with the RAZR, but the RAZR owners here seem to say it's not possible. Has anyone here tried downloading photos via USB or bluetooth from their OBEX-disabled RAZR using BitPim? [I understand that some older RAZR phones had firmware installed that did not disable OBEX.]

thanks for all your help :)

I searched on HowardForums, and it seems Mac users are having difficulty using BitPim, both with a USB cable and Bluetooth.

People seemed to have an easier time earlier last year. Did Verizon change the firmware on the LG phones at some point, making it more difficult to use BitPim?

Yeah, I'm also having a bitch of time getting BitPim to detect my Verizon LG VX8300. I'm not using a cable, but I've got bluetooth turned on for each device. Any help out there?

Try to connect it automatically. It will fail (and don't let it fool you into thinking it froze). It will ask you something about trying to manually set it up. Follow the instructions and pick your phone. Next add some tunes and and you should be all set.

Oh, and by the way. It worked on my sister's 5 month old phone. I have no idea which firmware version she has, nor do I know if there was an update.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone gotten BitPim to work with the Verizon-crippled RAZR [with the current firmware, not the older firmware before Verizon disabled OBEX] and been able to download photos from the phone to your Mac without paying Verizon $.25/photo? If so, was it via Bluetooth or USB?

It's not clear to me whether the people who said they couldn't download photos from their RAZRs had tried BitPim.

thanks! :)

My mother has an early razr from verizon that works perfectly with isync via bluetooth. I am able to send full mp3s and photos to the phone and use them on the phone. I can even set a full mp3 as the ringtone. My friend's newest razr wouldn't work at all.

I'm not sure if it would have worked with BitPim, but I think it would be a good idea to get a razr from like 2005 with the early firmware.

I don't know why, but it seems like CDMA carriers like to cripple phones more than GSM carriers. here in Canada, TELUS mobiity, a CDMA carrier got in the same kind of trouble for disabling features as Verizon. Apparently, TELUS learned their lesson. Verizon didn't.

It really does work with the 8300. Just make sure the phone paired with your machine. Go to bluetooth preferences, then devices. there's a good chance you do not see your 8300 there... even if you see it make sure it's connected...

I still haven't decided which Verizon phone to get. I would also like to know if anyone has gotten BitPim to work with the Verizon-crippled Samsung SCH-a870 and been able to download photos from the phone to your Mac without paying Verizon $.25/photo? If so, was it via Bluetooth or USB? If not, I'm interested to hear that too. thank you :)

Just got the 8300. I paired it and opened prefs and it says Connected: No. How do I make it say Yes?

My VX-8600 works great with my PB12" bluetooth. I can transfer songs and pics and everything.

I have not been able to get BitPim (3rd party program) to work via bluetooth yet, and it worked for awhile with a cable but has since stopped working.

Also, the bluetooth features in Address book (ie SMS, dialing, etc...) do not work with my verizon phone. I think verizon has blocked these features?
