I know that there’s been some talk of taking advantage of Verizon’s BOGO Iphonr $700 off by adding a line and cancelling an existing line. Has anyone been able to successfully swap their original number to their new iphone and cancel their existing line? Just wanted to hear some real world experiences

I haven't done it yet, but am planning on canceling the extra line this weekend. However, I was told by the Verizon rep that you could not transfer your number. That you just had to make do with the new number on the new line.

How does this work? You’re buying two phones and then returning one of them? Doesn’t that cancel out the $700 credit?

No, two of our lines are eligible for upgrade (old iPhones are paid off). Upgrading one line and adding a new line to get the $700 credit. Then we are cancelling the other upgrade eligible line since there is no payment plan attached to it. The net number of lines does not change, but technically we added a new line and are eligible for the credit. The only issue is that you lose the number associated with the line being cancelled.

What about porting that number to Google voice and then porting it back in to Verizon to replace the temporary # you set up the new line under?

Thanks for explaining. I guess this wouldn’t work for me since I only have one line.

If you have only one line, why would they give you two phones? Each phone needs to have a phone number/line.

anyone able to successfully utilize google voice to keep their number?

Not EXACTLY sure of your question... but... you can port a number from VZ to Google. Then set that number to forward to your new VS number.

You can also port a number from google voice to verizon wireless. i’m currently in the middle of porting my number to google so that i can port it back to my new line in verizon

You can't do that. The number has to be off Verizon service for at least 6 months to qualify for the promotion.

This deal has already ended.

I also agree that you don’t port in and out within the same month. Wait 2-6 months.

I thought that Verizon might keep this deal until the XR was released - damn I was going to take advantage of this. I used my upgrade for my Max, but was going to get one for my wife and then add a line for one of my in-laws. I wished they had given us a heads up on killing this deal.

I have verified that I got my bill credits already with my sept statement.

I ported my number out to google voice and still got my bill credits.
However, I have not ported my number from voice back to Verizon. I’ll probably wait 6 months.

There was a heads up in the faq section saying it ends sept 30. Anyways, I’m sure Verizon will have this similar deal during Xr release or thanksgiving or Christmas or Valentine’s Day. Verizon has these same deals every holiday in 2017-2018.
