The sampling rate of the sent audio messages in iMessage is really bad (8kHz - AMR Codec).

Do you think that the audio quality gets better in the GM build?

But there must be a reason why Apple has chosen a such bad quality.

That could be the main reason. Voice files size is currently very very small.

So it's not just me then? The quality of voice messages sent in iMessage in iOS 8 is terrible. Sounds like something coming from a phone years ago. I was very excited about this feature, but the quality is shockingly bad. FaceTime Audio is miles better.

Don't really understand why they've down this if it's a choice in their part. I doubt they take up that much space and it can be easily removed (or set to automatically delete) through details if users worry about storage.

Audio is horrible. I hope for iOS9 next years with voice quality improvements.

It's 2017, iOS 10, and the quality is still *******. This was the one fundamental reasos I switched to Whatsapp, that and layout and backup. Options. They offer a much better experience and service.
It's kind of embarrassing that apple would even do this.
