The sampling rate of the sent audio messages in iMessage is really bad (8kHz - AMR Codec).

Do you think that the audio quality gets better in the GM build?

It's 2014. Why did anyone today think that 8KHz sampling rate is still a good idea?

Of course we see better audio quality in iOS9.

Actually 8KHz is acceptable and a normal rate for voice sampling. It's likely the bit depth that is the issue.

It's a voice message for crying out loud. Not Adele performing at Carnegie Hall.

But there must be a reason why Apple has chosen a such bad quality.

That could be the main reason. Voice files size is currently very very small.

So it's not just me then? The quality of voice messages sent in iMessage in iOS 8 is terrible. Sounds like something coming from a phone years ago. I was very excited about this feature, but the quality is shockingly bad. FaceTime Audio is miles better.

Don't really understand why they've down this if it's a choice in their part. I doubt they take up that much space and it can be easily removed (or set to automatically delete) through details if users worry about storage.

Audio is horrible. I hope for iOS9 next years with voice quality improvements.

Aren't the phone calls something like 3 KHz?

Just how much better than a phone call do these audio iMessages need to be?

They should at least be as good as FaceTime Audio quality.

Facetime Audio quality is light years ahead of iMessage audio quality.

It's 2017, iOS 10, and the quality is still dogshit. This was the one fundamental reasos I switched to Whatsapp, that and layout and backup. Options. They offer a much better experience and service.
It's kind of embarrassing that apple would even do this.
