My current phone is the iPhone 6. Prior to that it was the iPhone 4s. In between, I briefly owned the first SE before returning it for a 6 (which I now regret). The first SE would have been ideal for me - funny as it sounds, it took ages to get used to the larger screen of the 6.

I've budgeted $150 per year for a phone, and both are $850 in Canada. So I plan to keep the phone for 5 years and (hopefully) sell it for $100 Canadian at that time.

I'm leaning towards the 13 Mini, but the 12 feels like the more significant upgrade due to the bigger screen.

What one would you folks choose?

It all depends on your preference.
Personally I would go for the mini.

I broke my 8 and got an 11, 2 months before the 12 mini arrived.
The 11 was a good phone and I was happy with it, I only thought it was too big for my hands and pockets.

After a year the earpiece stopped working on the 11 and Amazon was so kind too just give me a full refund.
Bought the 12 on Amazon for the same amount of money and since then I am as happy as a pig in poop.

The mini is perfect size wise for me, I will hold on as long as I can and Apple releases the next mini size 🙄

It would depend on the display size that you want.

Personally, I love the mini and would therefore get the 13 mini. It fits perfectly and I can operate it with one hand.

If you want a bigger display (doesn't come with significantly more pixels to display stuff), then go for the iPhone 12. Feature-wise, there is not much difference in my opinion.

Your iPhone journey is similar to mine. Start with 4s, currently using 6s and looking for 13 mini now.

I have 12 mini and I highly suggest you go for 13 mini. 13 mini fixes the main problem of 12 mini which is battery life. In fact I'm also thinking about switching to 13 mini because of that.

edit. I read the topic wrong, you were thinking between 12 and 13 mini. Well, either way I'll always suggest to get the mini since there isn't anything like it on the market and probably won't be for a while.

Depends on your screen preference. I still DD the regular 12 and you wouldn’t pay me to use the mini, the screen is just too small. Would really recommend you go to an apple store and play about with both and see which one you prefer.

I will say my iPhone 12 does struggle with app reloads these days, but it’s still a great phone in every other regard and very quick to open apps, you just can’t really count on them to stay open. Maybe the 13 mini handles app reloads better.

The Mini is better and improved in every way as it's a generation newer regardless, and it sounds like you prefer a smaller iPhone.

From your history the 13 Mini seems like the perfect fit. It is bigger then the first SE but smaller then your current 6. It has a bigger display then all of your iPhones you ever had. So you can't miss the 6.1inch because you never had it. But portability between 12 and 13 Mini is a night and day difference. Had the 12 Mini before the 13 Mini and the 12 too but returned the 12, even though I had the bigger normal iphone 11 before. So you can't miss what you don't know. And it seems like you love the size otherwise you would have bought a bigger phone already and not even considered a SE 1. If you regret buying a normal 6 instead of a smaller SE 1, you would regret buying a normal 12 instead of a 13 Mini even more, believe me.

My only complain for 13 mini is the black color option aka Midnight. I want 4s glossy black color instead of a washed out black color.

13 mini for sure. I loved my previous iPhone 12 but the 13 mini has been an upgrade in basically every way for my use-case. Brighter, higher-density screen, longer battery life (again, in my experience), better speakers, scaled-down notch (especially nice on the mini), improved cameras, and faster CPU, all in a smaller, ultra-portable package. Oh and of course the stunning green color :)

Just feels like a far more future-proof device for the money, especially since my 13 mini’s battery health has held strong at 100% since I got it in March whereas the 12’s battery degraded pretty significantly (approximately 10%) in the same timeframe. Again, the last one could’ve just been a dud, but it’s my honest experience.

Crikey. If this thread had a poll, think just about every vote would be for 13 mini! :)

That's gotta help the decision-making:

If you feel good about the support, you'll probably get the 13 mini.

If you find yourself resisting, then maybe you really want the 12.

I would say the 12/13/14 size is sticking around, while the 13mini is the best of its size and not around anymore.

For the improved radio alone i recommend the 13 mini. i have the 12 mini now, my partner has the 13 (non mini), and my partner consistently gets 5G where i cannot or where it is much weaker on my phone.

Don't be fooled by screen size. The 13 mini is significantly faster and better than the 12.

App reloads??

Are you sure you're not talking about websites in Safari tabs being reloaded, cause that's been happening on iOS since iPhone 7 was released due to being in TTC subway for several minutes then getting into carrier range. It's also been annoying me for voicemail notifications sent regardless if I've received one before and no new messages - grrr.

No apps have been reloaded since I can remember going way back to iOS 6 or iPhone 5S. Then again I never have more than 10 apps running in the background at any given time, just a habit of mine.
My only complain for 13 mini is the black color option aka Midnight. I want 4s glossy black color instead of a washed out black color.

It almost reminds me of the Jet Black finish on iPhone 7, one of the best. Definitely not washed out in person.

what? The iPhone 13 mini's black seems a lot more shinier than the 12 mini's black. I regret I returned the 13 mini black I had back in early May. Instead with only pink and starlight - the latter is my carrier HUP choice for 512GB. Cannot wait until this and DBrand skin come in this week.

With an active lifestyle, going to the gym, cycling (12 mini currently on my FastRoad SL2 as a Map and cycle computer) and dress/casual pants, I have thick thighs (track & field runner since my youth), I avoid bulges in my pants unless it's 'au naturale' ;)

joking aside the less weight in my pants pocket the more free I feel. I do always do a pants pocket check to ensure my mini is in my pocket before leaving somewhere. Funny I used to do this in my back pocket when I used to carry a wallet but with MagSafe wallet don't need bulky wallet any longer.
