5% marketshare? Where do you come up with such nonsense? Every single Mac ships with Safari as the default browser. If you think 95% of people who own Macs switch their browsers to Chrome you're delusional.
As Macs only have a market share of 8%, a market share of 5% for Safari means that more than 60 % of Mac users use Safari (if one excludes the Windows Safari users).

I mean, I use both regularly and side by side, I guess I am 30 then?

That would be true if apple owned 100% of the market, but that's far from the truth. Underestimating apple's computer market share at 10% (to make the math a little easier) only 50% of the users would need to switch away from safari in order to drop safari's share to 5%. Seems completely reasonable to me, as more than half of the people I know with macs use chrome as the default.

Just ignore all that.. didn't see the reply above mine

My 2015 MBPr 13" has amazing battery life, so I'm wondering if something is causing your poor battery life. I use only Chrome for the same reasons as you and watch a ton of YouTube videos. I would also be using Excel and the messages app the entire time. After all of this, I could still get through an entire day with 35-40% remaining.

Ummm.... really? Have a think about what you've written and consider that Chrome and Firefox add ons also work on Linux and Windows.

The original discussion was about battery life on a Mac notebook. I assumed the original comment about the 5% marketshare was in reference to what we were actually talking about in this thread (Safari vs Chrome on Macs.)

All Macs only represent about 10% of desktop/laptop OS market share, so Safari can't represent more than that. For it to only represent 5% that would mean that about half of Mac users favour a different browser, not 95%.

Not sure how much clearer I can be.

We were originally only talking about Macs.

The thread has to do with Safari vs Chrome performance/power utilization on a Mac.

It sounded like the original response about 5% marketshare was only talking about Macs (not ALL PCs).

Sorry, I missed your follow-up post. I understand what you mean, but to be fair, looking at the context that the "5% marketshare" was brought up in, it was regarding why developers don't prioritize Safari as opposed to other browsers, and said developers would obviously be considering the whole market, not just Macs.

One should also see the percentage on relation to actual numbers.

If only Safari takes up only a 5% marketshare, according to Netmarketshare.dot.something, than that is an audience of 50 million people, which is still a a considerable amount for developers.

Apple claims 10h at best for very minor usage on low brightness.
25% in 1.5h means 6h on one charge. That's excellent!

Sorry guys, that was misleading I guess. I used the MBP for about 6 charging cycles, and now after switching to Safari, and with BT off, I have just got 6 hours with the battery showing 50% remaining. This is surfing, using spreadsheets, downloading etc. Wifi was on thru out, and screen brightness was at little less than half.

I don't know if you can extrapolate this to say I will get 12 hours, but the battery life seems very good.

I had not realised that BT would be on by default, and I had also not realised that Chrome was a hog.

Anyway in a few days I will be using this for a long flight and that will be a true test for movies etc.
