I received my 3rd gen iPad Pro today, 12.9/wi-fi/256GB. I noticed it runs pretty hot..the back gets pretty darn hot with normal usage..surfing the web, email, etc...no gaming or anything like that. I owned both the 1st and 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9, and they maybe got warm from time to time, but nothing like this. It feels nearly as hot as my MacBook Pro. Anyone else having the same experience?

I did notice mine getting warm a little as well. Will try a few more things to see if it still gets warm.

These devices typically do this when you're first setting them up. They are using a ton of WiFi downloading things, a ton of CPU cycles installing apps, sorting large photo libraries, and indexing the device. And then people like us are often running intensive apps on top of that to test out the speed. If you're still having problems tomorrow then let us know. I have the same model but with LTE arriving tonight so I'll keep an eye on it as well.

Hmmm..I think you're right. I just picked up the iPad 15 minutes ago and its been just warm, which seems normal. I think I jumped the gun, lol.

Not hot, not yet anyway. Just a tad warm. Just using it for Internet, photos and a little music.

Ok I’ve been restoring mine and it has only gotten warm so far but it was very cold when I opened it since it has been in the 40s here today. Also weird that it didn’t turn on right away. Took three tries holding it down for a few seconds each time. Honestly thought it was broken, and I have owned a ton of iOS devices since 2007.

It might also depend on your internet. Slow internet means it takes a lot longer to restore and your chip is chugging away longer. I have 500Mbps here.

Mine took forever to turn on too. I held the button down far longer than I have had to for any other iOS device. I too thought it was DOA. Seemed to be fine after starting up and restoring.

Mine also too a moment to turn on, thought I had a dead iPad at first. So far, using the iPad for hours this evening, it has remained warm.
