I am running a mac mini as a file/webserver and often connect via VNC..

If I try to mount the shared drives on my Macbook pro, or even my Hackintosh it takes quite a while to connect/prompt for password.

Same thing if I connect with VNC. It takes about a minute or 2 to prompt me for the password.

The mac mini is wired directly to router. Using 100BaseT. Hackintosh is wired as well, macbook is either wireless N or wired.

Any idea on how I can speed it up?

My windows machine connects very fast.
My iPhone can even connect to VNC really fast. (Mocha VNC lite)

If have seen this type of behaviour pretty often in the past and normally it has to do with DNS resolution.

Specifically, the server is having difficulty resolving the host names of clients.

Log on to the server and check whether it can resolve a name for the IP address of the client.

If it can't, the easiest thing to do is to add a static entry into the /etc/hosts file.

    Things should be faster.

Alternately, I could be completely worng, but check it out.
