Something has happened to the system on my trusty Powerbook. Recently, when I switch between accounts it takes 2-3 minutes to log into the new account. That's how long it takes before the screen rotates...this doesn't include any time to boot applications etc.
Any ideas what is causing the delay? It is a new problem, but I can't associate it with a recent upgrade or install. It is as if the system is looking for a network drive or some system resource and finally times out. Thoughts?
[Update] This is driving me nuts. It is so slow. I looked in the Consol log and noticed that for numerous applications I'm seeing this:
2008-03-08 21:08:04.581 System Preferences[289] Can't open input server /Library/InputManagers/Smart Crash Reports.bundle
This happens for about 90 seconds during login. This is probably the problem. So, I googled the error and found some hits. The first one mentions uninstalling some Unsanity software, which I did, but the problem persists identically. I'm not convinced that "Smart Crash Reports" has anything to do with Unsanity. Any other tips? Toughts?
[Update II]
Everyone enjoying this conversation I'm having with myself?
Okay, Smart Crash Reports is clearly developed by Unsanity and I have resolved this problem by uninstalling and reinstalling that "hidden" app. I now have a log that reads very simply and doesn't appear to informative:
Mar 8 21:43:51 [MY_MACHINE] /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow: Login Window Application Started
Mac OS X Version 10.4.11 (Build 8S165)
2008-03-08 21:46:31 +1300
You can see that there is almost a 3 minute delay from when I invoke the login window to when I can see the console.app again. Ugh.
