I went into the Apple Store app on my iPad to make a reservation time to get the iPhone 6s Plus and the Apple Store app bounced me to a website that told me to text to 83372 a string of letters and numbers to get a reservation code to enter back into the webpage. It looked like a Apple webpage, but in the rush to put in my pre-order I didn't check the URL bar to see if indeed it was from Apple. Anyway, 83372 never texted me back. And according to the webpage if I didn't enter the reservation code onto the webpage within 30 minutes I would have to start over. After waiting 30 minutes I simply went ahead with the process and it worked without the need for a reservation code.

Anybody else encounter this? The instructions to text 83372 and get a reservation code, which you then need to enter in order to get a reservation at an Apple Store?

I had not heard of this or had to do this myself but it doesn't surprise me. I can just imagine all the people creating several apple IDs to horde iPhone to sell. They used to have tones of people wait in lines to get multiple iPhones but Apple technically made that much easier this year.

I didn't have to do it on my reservation but when I made a reservation for my wife under her Apple ID I had to do the text.

You also had to text 83372 in order to set up a reservation for your wife's iPhone 6s? How quickly did you get the text? I never got mine . . . after 40 minutes of waiting I just went ahead and finished up the reservation. It seemed it didn't need the reservation code after all?!?

I got it immediately. Plugged it in and it allowed me to complete the reservation. I did change her password prior to ordering since she never really used iCloud. I figured it was because I used a inactive iCloud is to reserve her phone.

I had to do this. Idk last year it was not like that, but this year it is for some reason

It just gave me the reservation right from the website. All I had to do was sign in to my Apple ID. I think maybe it's based on the Apple Store you choose?

I think Apple should put up a "What to expect when pre-ordering" info page. It was a bit strange and creepy seeing that. And we don't know why that hoop is there? Some people have to go through it, some don't.
