Ok, I know I already posted a Terminal Command on page one of this thread, but I found this website/ app Battorox from MacWorld and it is Panther compatible.

Thanks! Just downloaded it it, and works fine. Here's mine - I've had it for a year and a week or two. Guess I need to get a-calibratin'....

Only 34 cycles. I leave my iBook plugged in most of the time, and then I make sure the battery is getting used. I calibrated it at the start too.

Anyone know why I'm only getting 90%? Is that terrible?

I'm going to try the resetting thing.

I'd calibrate the battery if I were you. I've had this iBook for 2 months now, 85 charge cycyles, and I'm at 89% :( I tried calibrating earlier today and it's still 89%, I'll try doing it again . . .

So, I totally drained the battery and then fully charged it while my iBook was off. I'm still only at 92% after just 35 cycles. :(

Thanks for that, devilot – it'll tide me over until I get around to upgrading my iBook to Tiger!

My battery weighs in with...

My PowerBook is on all the time. I used to use iBatt, but this works much better. However, my battery doesn't look so good. My first battery died very quickly. This is a replacement and it has been through an EMBA program and many hours on the plane.

Did a second complete drain and recharge. Bumped up my battery up to 91% of full capacity . . . will do again tonight to see how it holds up.

What have I done to my battery????

I seem to have destroyed my iBook's battery, I've only had it for 18 months and now it only gets about 2 hours MAX. I haven't got Tiger, so I can't see how many cycles I've done (via coconut battery). But here's the info from capacity meter and iBatt.

:(

edit: Just found battorox, so I've attached the capture from that.

After reading this thread, I'm almost too scared to run portables anyway but attached to the wall :D
How many cycles is a battery meant to last for?
Here's a screenshot of my coconut battery.. This battery has bit the dust after a good 5+ years. New one and 512MB of ram on it's way! :)

I just joined this group because I was loking for battery info. I ahve a two year old ibook with Panther only so cannot get beta from system profiler or download coconut battery life. I am not unix savy so cannot try to run the battery right down in single user mode and right now I only have 30 minutes charge after the plug in light goes green even if it goes into auto shut down and is charged over night.

I do use it a lot and the battery has run down many times. It also is plugged in a lot with little drain time sometimes.

I have no problems with buying a new battery but feel like I have no where the use some of you are mentioning.

WTF

I would suggest actually using the iBook on battery power sometimes. Li Ion batteries like having current passed through them.

Eeep.

167 cycles.
7 months.
95% charge.

Personally I do not see what the problem is.

You can buy a new battery... They are not meant to last forever.

Yes, but I'm not sure most people expect their battery to quit so fast. The bane of li-ion I guess.

[edit] by the way, I just looked though this thread again and i think I win with the worst battery life / lowest cycle ratio.

I think its the heat. My powerbooks been crunching numbers 24hours a day for the past weeks on projects. The case has been warm continiously.... hmmm. I think I'll get myself some offsets. :-(
