Maybe your MacBook Pro has subconsciously developed a method to create and reuse power. Try a permissions check/restart.

My old PB used to do that all the time. I would simply plug it in, take the battery out and put it back and it would show up again on the status menu. I was too lazy to try and figure out the cause though.
