Music video company Vevo is developing an app for the Apple TV, according to a report from AdAge. The app will show a 24/7 music video channel with ads made specifically for television rather than for streaming Internet video.
Vevo has an existing iOS app [iPhone, iPad], and, if it launches an Apple TV app, would join other recently launched apps including HBO Go and WatchESPN. Apple is also rumored to be coming close to launching a Time Warner Cable app for the Apple TV.

Apple worked with a number of third-party content providers recently to launch new channels for the Apple TV. HBO used an internal development team to make its app, presumably using an unpublished development kit from Apple.

Historically, the Apple TV has taken a backseat to the iPad and the iPhone with the company referring to the Apple TV as a "hobby project," though Apple is rumored to be exploring new product lines that could eventually include an Apple television set.

At the D11 conference in May, Apple CEO Tim Cook reiterated that television continues to be an "area of great interest" for Apple and that the company has a "grand vision" in place.

Update: According to AllThingsD, the Vevo Apple TV app is slated for release later this month.

Nice to have with ATV but all other TV type consoles already have this app. Looks like apple is starting to get nervous and starting to get on the Internet APP/Console bandwagon. Its about time.

Apple has until Chromecast 2.0 to open AppleTV / release iTV and have a large enough collection of apps and content selection to get this whole "Apple is extremely interested in TV" thing figured out. Otherwise I think they will have missed the market window.

This is unlike iPhone. When the iPhone came out, no one was even close to comparing. They had a huge lead, but that gap is now closed by Samsung. Currently, AppleTV is just one among a bevy of roughly comparable options. And all of them could be brilliant, but they all miss on one front or the other (or two). But basically, the hardware is ready, only the software and content needs to mature.

Which unfortunately for Apple means, if they were to wow us tomorrow with a new release of AppleTV that opened the API and contains network TV content. The other guys will catch up in about a year. There's no way they are going to make as much hay from a brilliant AppleTV solution as they did from iPhone. The competition isn't starting from as far behind as they did with the iPhone.

Back to Chromcast 2.0. That devices doesn't have to be as good as what we all know AppleTV could be to prevent Apple domination. It simply needs to be good enough, that when Apple finally releases the real AppleTV, that consumers say "hmmph, a little nicer than a Chromecast, but nothing radical". There won't be any wind in the sail at the point. I'm sure Apple will do ok in that case, but they won't dominate like they did with the iPhone.

Well, I already know where it definitely will NOT launch this month. ;)

PS: If you need a tip: The country starts with a "G" and ends with "ermany".

To extend - any country that doesnt start with "T" and end with "he United States of America".

Here is one more, starts with "J" and ends with "apan".
In this country, no Spotify, no iTunes Match.
Did I mention the price of a song in iTunes is basically from $2.5(250yen) in this country?
Crazy country about digital contents market.

People forget about AirPlay

Roku has it for a year now

Apple TV has also had this for over a year, too. If you could the excellent AirPlay support that the Vevo app has. And no, I don't mean iPad/iPhone mirroring.

The Vevo app fully supports AirPlay. You browse from your device (even as a video is playing on your TV through the Apple TV) and it plays, full screen, on your TV. It's a nice app, and great example of what the Apple TV can do.

Yes, but (1) do people know about them, and (2) Seems Apple TV is doing pretty good.

"The report published by research form Frost and Sullivan say that Apple now has 56.1 percent of the streaming set top box market, in second place is Roku with a 21.5 percent share."

(This excludes the lions share, which are xbox/ps3 of course)

On an other note:

I know there is a lot of "Apple is doomed" out there, but I don't think so.

They survived the 80's, they aren't going anywhere. Market leader? No, maybe not. But they will, in my opinion, continue to put out the best products, and I will continue to enjoy them.

Maybe they become in the tablet and smartphone market as they are in the PC market. Who knows. As long as they continue to do what they have always (mostly) done, I'll be happy, and continue to use Apple products for the next 30 years, as I have for the past 30 years.

Vevo would be great if you could customize it to your taste of music instead of having justin beiber, beyonce and rhianna shoved in your face at every start up.
