Hi,

i have a macbook pro, 10.8.5, and i want to connect it to my Phillips Matchline TV (model 42PF9945)

I purchased a Thunderbolt mini display port to VGA lead, and have connected that from my thunderbolt port to the TV using a VGA cable.
Audio is connected too, from the mini jack of the macbook pro to the audio ins on the TV.

Problem is, when i turn the TV to 'VGA mode', it just comes up saying 'Picture format not availible'

Is there something i should be doing in Preferences/displays...?

Thanks for any help and advice

You're not mirroring displays by any chance?

No, I don't think so anyway. I've tried the same connection on a different tv and on a monitor and there both fine.

Puzzled!

If you have a 1080p TV, try setting the resolution to 1920x1080 at either 30 or 60 hz. If you have a 720p TV, try 1366x768 or 1360x768 at 60 hz (for whatever reason, most 720p TVs I've seen have panels that are slightly higher in resolution than true 720p). If none of those work, try 1280x720 at 60 hz.
