Is there any way to connect my VCR/DVD combo player and hook it up to my mid-2009 MBP?

I want to tranfer my VHS(S) to digital format (mov, mkv, avi, etc.)

Is it possible?

Is it cheap?

If you are willing to pay some money ($83), this does the job easily:

ElGato Video Capture

I just bought this Elgato device (Bought at local Apple store for $99, so I'm sure I paid more than I needed). Anyway, I will say that this device makes it pretty darned easy. I have a couple hundred VHS tapes and some of the older ones I don't have DVD replacements for. For those, I'm using the Elgato Vid Capture to transfer to MP4 files and then into iTunes. You can set it too record then stop after a specified time. This allows be to start a VHS recording in the AM before I go to work, then it's done when I get home. I also rip VHS tapes while I
m sleeping. Yes, it was a little pricy, but it really does work well. I've also been able to rip some old home videos from when my kids were little. Since VHS deteriorates over time, this is allowing me to save important memories forever.
