Viable alternative to Facebook & FB Messenger

Hi,

I'm new to iPhone, just got a 6s, and I find (like on Android) that Facebook and Facebook Messenger are insane battery munchers.

Short of using the mobile website, are there any viable alternatives to the official apps?

I think that's only available in the USA, is there anyway I can get it in the UK?

Just figured out how to change it, but I have an outstanding credit balance from a gift card on my account, and an Apple Music account so it won't let me change countries!

Any other way I can get it?

I had to create a US iTunes account, I'm not sure if its still easy to create one now as it was back then.


As an aside, are they still developing Paper? Hasn't been updated in a while

Anyone using "Friendly"? I see a free and a paid version that blocks adds. I've also noticed FB has been sucking more battery than usual lately and am seeking an alternative.
