OK, it's sort of a half solution, but here it is. Because the new iPods(classic, 3g nano) require an Apple chip in the new cable, it won't do video out with 3rd party cables. Here's how to get around it:

1: Plug iPod into universal dock.
2: Plug 3.5mm-RCA cable(any brand) into the headphone jack ON THE DOCK
    3: Plug RCA end into TV(if it's an apple cable, then Y-Y, W-W, R-R, but if it's a 3rd party one, do this: Yellow-Red, White-White, Red-Yellow.

And there you have it. You still have to lug your dock with you, but it's relatively small, and it's a nice little quick hack.

Can anyone confirm this with the 3G (Fat) Nano (or the iPod Touch)?

What's the quality like for downloaded iTunes TV shows?

I know it's no ATV, but this may sufice until I can get a high def flat screen and an ATV.
