Ok, so I am in need of a good external usb video capture device for my 2009 uMB and remember I do not have FW ports.

My Digital Video Camera uses a component cable and mini usb

Can you tell us the camera model? Your description leaves me wondering...

The below images show you the Component, Composite and S-Video ports and the USB and Firewire ports.
It is unlikely, that you have a Component video out on a camcorder.

These are the various USB plugs, "Mini USB" is the second from the left (you can click on the image for a larger version of this image):

If you have a Composite or S-Video Out port and no Firewire port on that camcorder, you can use something like this: http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/Video-Capture/product1.en.html
