What card do you have now? If you have an 8800 GT, you'll need to open it up and swap cards every time you switch OS' if you get either the 3870 x2 or the 9800 GX2.

I do indeed have the 8800GT. Will swapping the cards be difficult?

Will the TWO 6 pin PCI connectors provide enough power t either the 3870 X2 or 9800 GX2?

No way to answer without knowing what you will be using the card for. Video editing? Game playing? Surfing the net?

Contrary to popular belief, Caps Lock is not cruise control for cool.

You need a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter for the 9800 GX2, at least. Otherwise, there's enough power.

Big orange letters are not capital. ;p

I'd go with the 3870x2, it can get by with one 6 pin molex that you can take from the lower optical drive, assuming you're not using it. 9800GX2 is REALLY power hungry.

The problem is I have 2 superdrives. Does that mean i wont be able to get the extra power from there?

    Why buy a Mac?

Trust me, needing to shut down your computer, disconnect cords, open up the side, disconnect graphic card cords, pull out the card, get the other card, put it in, close the door, put back all cables

just to switch from OSX to windows or windows to OSX is PAINFUL.

Not to mention you always need your computer clear on the floor...

That is why im selling my windows 8800GTX for a Mac 8800GT now.

And the gain from 9800X2 vs 8800GT is not that much. 9800 is not even a new generation card, it's a double 8800.

There is enough power, however. If u grab a molex from a superdrive.

That's interesting. I had read in these forums that the system could not run an 8800GT and a 9800X2 at the same time. Does taking power from the second superdrive molex (and presumably not using the motherboard power outlet) overcome the 300 watt power limitation of the PCIe slots and motherboard connectors?
    Thanks

There is not enough power to run both cards. I was talking about a single 9800x2.

And why would you want to run them both? You would get no benefit at all.

Because I need a card that OSX recognizes and a card for running games in Boot Camp (that OSX will not recognize). Right now I'm okay with the 8800GT (I can run Crysis at VERY HIGH settings without any slow frame rates) but the way Apple is slow to adopt the latest video cards I wanted a way to upgrade my Windows card for gaming.
I love my Mac since switching from a PC but I still need Windows for some business software and games (developers don't treat Macs as high priority for new games).
