I'm trying to make a video CD from iMovie that will work on my DVD player. I've tried Quicktime and MPEG-4, and neither disc was readable. Do I need special authoring software to do this? Thanks.

may i suggest doing a search on versiontracker or macupdate for VCD ?

A VCD needs a special directory/file structure and a very specific encoding at very specific settings. There is software that will do this for you, which is what i'm recommending you use. However it probably won't be free.

Get hold of Toast - easy and quick !

Once you have Toast on your mac, you can simply drag your video files onto the Toast window, select Video CD (or SuperVideo CD) and off you go, works for me, though it does of course involve you getting hold of a copy of Toast first !
