I'm a new Mac user and I have begun using Ichat. At this point it's confirued with my AOL IM info. I'm not sure I'm understanding it's fully capabilities. Does the IChat app sync with most common instant messanger programs?

My other question is with many IM programs, like Yahoo you can chat with people you don't know if a variety of subjects. I'm not sure if you can do that wil IChat.

Based on IChat's capabilities, I'm wondering if anyone here can recomend video chat programs they like on the Mac. Thanks all!

(I apologize, I accidentally posted this in the wrong thread previously)

    Skype is good VoIP.

For MSN, by far the best is Adium, and I use this skin.

Adium however has no Webcam support yet, so for that I use the latest beta of Mercury Messenger (download link)

If you have yahoo you can continue using it with your existing account. Just download yahoo messenger for Mac and you're ready to chat.

There's also skype which is crossplatform and supports audio.
