Video cutter / extractor

Hi
im looking for a app where I can watch a video and cut out small sections to use else where
e.g sports game footage, I then want to extract individual plays and save as separate files

any ideas?

If you have the original clips downloaded iMovie would be the free option that could easily do what you are asking.

I have the full game footage as one file. I do you use iMovie but don't see how I would extract small sections to save as separate files

You would have two projects open at time, once you have split the clip you can select it and copy it to the new project and export the file.

You could always just use QuickTime Player. If you open a clip with this then go into Edit, Trim you can adjust the start and end points then save as a new file.

Yes, for the supported media formats. mkv, for example, is not supported.
