Video fade on FCP X question?

I'm just learning FCP X and am trying to fade in the start of the video and fade out. The only way I've found so far is to add a transition at the start/end. Is there a way you can adjust the fade curve as it's linear by default? I'd rather it fade in more slowly initially but without adjusting the overall fade time.

You could keyframe the opacity, but there does not seem to be a curve function, thus you have to make a "curve" by adding keyframes yourself.
