in iOS 10 on iPad Air, it seems like there are different / sporadic features depending on the content when I play a video in Safari. For example:

  • Sometimes video keeps playing, even when I switch to another Safari tab, as with todays NFL game on CBS.com. Other times it stops immediately I switch tabs.
  • Some videos have Airplay icon, others do not
  • Some videos have the minimize / picture-in-picture icon. Others do not and AFAIK there is no way to use those videos in PIP unless I'm missing something.
I do understand that in apps, the developer must specifically turn these features on. What controls their presence or absence in Safari browser? Are there other browsers that have a more full or consistent experience when streaming video?
