When I first bought my 5G iPod, I'd put videos and pictures on it just for the novelty factor. Nowadays, I use it strictly for music. I'm about to run out of space though with only 6GB left. For me, the video/picture feature is an added incentive, but not something that I care about, other than to add album art to my songs.

Why does the product need to be apple? There any many viable choice for what you are looking for and have equal quality to the iPod and host of features you never expect on a mp3/pmp device.

i have a 30gig ipod and have never used it to watch a video. i bought it for it's slim profile, the extra 10 gig (while all other companies were still offering 20 gb), and the color screen. i have about 4 gb of storage left.. i might switch to a a larger hd once the new ipods get introduced.

I had a 60GB Black ViPod and I recently sold it because:

1. I watched few videos, got the "wow, that's cool factor," and then never watched another.
2. Having over 30GB of music on my iPod, the shuffle feature was pretty useless because I would always get music I'd never heard before, or didn't want to hear.

I plan to buy the largest capacity nano as soon as the next generation comes out. That way, I'll be forced to only put my absolute favorite songs on it, making the shuffle option much better.

Daniel.

I just got my 60GB refurb a week ago and i absolutely love it. The point of the 5th gen isn't to be the end all video player, but a quick option for some downtime entertainment. I have videos on my iPod but i don't really watch them too much. The thing is however, i make short films, and now having a video capable iPod allows me to tote those films around with me and not be dependent on space to carry DVDs, having players, etc. I can have them right along with my music and photos if i NEED them. For me it is pointless to buy videos of shows and music videos, i won't watch them.

Video capability is a useful touch, but not a life or death thing in the 5th gen. The primary focus of the iPod is and always will be music.

IMO, no other product can match the interface or form of any Apple product and that's why they do so well. It's sad that mp3 players are judged so much on aesthetic qualities, but it's true that nobody has a better-looking or easier-to-use player than Apple, so they sell extremely well.

I dunno about you but to me function is always better than form. That is why I have something big but very functional and very easy to use. I can just plug the player into any computer(as long as the os supports UMS device) I want and drag(with out converting) the files be it (most)audio files, (many)video files, pictures or text. I find that simple to me. The interface is simple but if your files are not organized then it's not so simple but I like to keep everything in its correct folders so I don't have to worry. Just a rant.
